THREATS FROM NORTH KOREA: North Korea mobilizes white-collar workers to fight drought—state media

North Korea’s white-collar workers have been deployed to farming areas across the country to help fight against drought, state media said, as the impoverished nation struggles to prevent heavy crop damage.

The isolated, nuclear-armed nation — which is under multiple sets of sanctions over its weapons programmes — has long struggled to feed itself and suffers chronic food shortages.

The country is highly vulnerable to natural disasters including flood and drought due to chronic lack of infrastructure, deforestation and decades of state mismanagement.

The North’s Rodong Sinmun newspaper reported government officials as well as company and factory workers were “actively joining the fight in drought-prone regions”.

“As soon as they arrived at the site, they immediately started watering, working shoulder-to-shoulder with farmers as they waged a fierce battle with nature,” the Wednesday report added.

The report did not specify the damage so far, but said the efforts were aimed at countering the ongoing dry spell as well as “preventing crop damages from drought in advance”.

The dry spell was forecast to continue throughout the week, the official KCNA news agency said citing the country’s weather agency.

There was a chance of “slight rain” on Friday, “but it will not be helpful in dissolving the drought”, it added.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called for measures to improve the “tense” food situation, caused by the pandemic, typhoons and international sanctions over the country’s weapons programmes.

North Korea has been living under a rigid self-imposed coronavirus blockade since early 2020 to protect itself from the pandemic, although it briefly resumed trade with China early this year.

My FH5 Log: Ferrari de Mayo (Part 1)

The Series 7 update in Forza Horizon 5 celebrates Ferrari taking over the entire series playlists in time for Cinco de Mayo celebrations. The first one in the Ferrari de Mayo takeover in FH5 is the super-ancient Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso, which is yours to drive after getting enough points in the Series 7 Wet Playlist.

Although the Lusso is not the most extreme version of the 250 GT range, it lives up to its name as a luxury grand tourer in its own right. Lusso is "luxury" in Italian, referring to the luxury version of the 250 GT and it was launched simultaneously with the 250 GTO racing machine in 1962. With 351 units of this model sold from 1962 to 1964, it was one of the most profitable cars until then. It comes with the same 3.0L V12 engine from the other 250GT models but the power output is a measly 250HP. It does 0-60mph in the seven-second mark and flat-out in an estimated 145mph, which is still quick even by modern standards.

With the quick intro done, it's time to give the Berlinetta Lusso a leisurely drive with other classic luxury sports cars...in the dirt. I know driving a vintage Ferrari in the dirt is not just an act of disrespect for Ferrari but also a big disrespect for Italian heritage and culture, but hey, this is Forza Horizon so it never hurts to give it a try. Anyway, roll the VTR.

Driving a vintage Ferrari on dirt was the hardest thing to do but it's done anyway.

Enjoy your new ride!

THREATS FROM NORTH KOREA: JCS: North Korea Fires Ballistic Missile from Sunan Area

North Korea fired a ballistic missile toward the East Sea on Wednesday.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff(JCS) said it detected a ballistic missile that was fired from the Sunan area in Pyongyang at around 12:03 p.m.

The JCS said it is monitoring related movements in preparation for any additional launches.

The latest test fire comes 18 days after the North carried out launches of two tactical guided weapons from the Hamhung area into the East Sea. It launched an intercontinental ballistic missile from the Sunan area on March 24.
