THREATS FROM NORTH KOREA: Reports of hidden N.Korea nuclear efforts raise questions in US

Reports that North Korea intends to secretly maintain some of its nuclear stockpile and production facilities raised questions Sunday about President Donald Trump’s insistence that the North was “no longer a nuclear threat,” after his historic summit in Singapore.

The Washington Post cited four unnamed US officials who, it said, had seen or been briefed on new intelligence findings that point to preparations for deceiving the United States.

The Post’s report came after NBC News said the North has been increasing nuclear weapons fuel production.

The reports followed Trump’s boast that the summit denuclearization pledge made by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had effectively ended the North’s nuclear threat, after months of inflammatory language from both sides.

The Post said the evidence of North Korean cheating had emerged since the June 12 summit, where Kim and Trump signed a pledge “to work towards complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.”

The stock phrase failed to clearly define denuclearization or produce a specific timeline towards dismantling the North’s atomic weapons arsenal.

It also stopped short of longstanding US demands for North Korea to give up its atomic arsenal in a “verifiable” and “irreversible” way.

On Sunday Trump stuck by his confidence in the North’s efforts.

“I think they’re very serious about it,” Trump said during during an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

Asked how he could trust Kim’s vow to denuclearize, Trump replied: “We had great chemistry. I made a deal with him. I shook hands with him. I really believe he means it.”

The interview was broadcast Sunday but taped late in the week, before the reports of North Korean cheating emerged publicly.

“We gave nothing. What we are going to give is good things in the future,” the president said.

His National Security Advisor, John Bolton, insisted on Sunday that the administration was fully aware of North Korea’s history of deception and was not entering the denuclearization talks naively.

“There’s not any starry-eyed feeling among the group doing this,” Bolton said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

Separately, he told “Fox News Sunday” that “we are using the full range of our capabilities to understand what North Korea is doing.”

Sunday is a big day for NASCAR because America's stock car racing series brings back NBC Sports as its network of choice for NASCAR coverage and for a bigger treat, Dale Earnhardt Jr., who retired from NASCAR last year, returns once again, only this time as one of the commentators of this race. Chicagoland's never felt so alive with all the NASCAR action going on around until the exciting climax everybody's talking about.

As Aric Almirola wins Stage 1 at Chicagoland and Kevin Harvick wins Stage 2, the Chicagoland action keeps on going despite drizzling conditions and numerous setbacks and this is where the climax gets in. At the final lap, Kyle Larson and Kyle Busch are going on an all-out war on the checkered flag. As Busch got nudged to the wall, Larson leads but then, Kyle Busch shoved Larson's rear and pushed him out of the track, giving Busch a win to this race. This is one helluva race that will go down in history books as one of the greatest one-lap duels. The whole world's going to talk about what happened at Chicagoland. That's respect to you.

F1 2018: Austrian GP

The world maybe paying attention on the World Cup matches but for now, all eyes are on Red Bull Ring for the Austrian GP of the F1 2018 season, where surprises come from every corner and the tables have turned on the drivers themselves.

With both the Mercedes drivers out of the way because of mechanical issues, the race now belongs to Red Bull's Max Verstappen as he surprisingly won the Austrian Grand Prix for the team where it was established from. Also, the two Ferrari drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel, tasted their podium finish and because of Hamilton out of the picture, Vettel regains his championship lead. At the start of the race, Stoffel Vandoorne of McLaren is feeling the pinch as he collided with Toro Rosso's Pierre Gasly. Meanwhile, at Lap 12, Nico Hulkenberg's car caught fire. And on Lap 54, looks like Daniel Ricciardo's birthday celebration ended in shambles as mechanical issues ended his race.

After Austria, Vettel's back at the top of the leaderboard with a point gap between Hamilton and Raikkonen's now third with 101 points.

The next race is at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix on the 8th of July.

In the match between Croatia vs. Denmark, meanwhile, Croatia won by three penalty kicks over two from the Danes.

There's so much to question about the Russians' performance apart from being the hosting team that swept through the competition but let's leave it for now because the next match of the Knockouts will see Brazil taking on Mexico and Belgium taking on Japan.
