Forza Motorsport 7 - A tribute to the 919 Hybrid

Back in 2014, Porsche returned to LMP1 endurance racing with their 919 Hybrid and although it didn't fare well in its first run, which led to its 3rd place finish at the constructor's championship at the 2014 WEC season, it came back with a much fighting chance and because of such will power, it managed to win not just Le Mans but also three WEC seasons on the trot from 2015 to 2017. Although Porsche has left the LMP1 racing program after their three-win streak with the 919, its dominant status won't be forgotten as I brought in the first and the last 919s to win Le Mans at this venue in preparation for today's Le Mans.

In this fitting tribute to the Porsche 919 Hybrid, I summoned the first and the last 919 Hybrids to win at this holy grail of high-speed endurance racing just to give the taste of how much the 919 has evolved from its first victory in 2015 to its last victory of 2017.

Looking back four years in the making, the 919 has evolved from an underdog to the king of endurance racers, and by pitting these two machines together, I'm starting to remember how much the 919 ruled endurance racing with an iron fist in the same way its predecessors did all the way back to the legendary 917.

For starters, the 919 features a 2.0L fuel-injected V4 engine with a li-ion battery for energy recovery in a mid-mounted longitudinal configuration. The hybrid powerplant is capable of producing 900HP of power output and 1,100lb-ft of torque, while mated with a 7-speed hydraulically-activated sequential gearbox with rear-lock differential. Throughout its three-year tenure, Porsche spent numerous resources improving its aerodynamics, chassis, and suspension, resulting in the very machine you're seeing it now and as the machine that swallowed Audi through its mouth and made Toyota cry by the last minute, the 919 really is the endurance racing tyrant that gave Porsche the absolute power to reign down the motorsport kingdom just how Zeus reign down the gods in ancient times.

Although the 919's reign as the king of endurance racing is well and truly over following Porsche's decision to wind down their 919 racing program, they paid tribute to the machine by making an especially unplugged, unscripted, no-holds-barred machine that smashes every single best lap around the world, showing how much Porsche is capable of.

Anyway, no time for being sentimental right now because it's time to see how much the 919 has evolved from the first 919 to win Le Mans to the final 919 to win it in this venue. Cue the tape.

And now, the results...

#19 919 - 3:43.117
#2 919 - 3:39.161

By my observation, it took almost four seconds to evolve from this to that, meaning they really did improve the 919 to become the ultimate endurance racing champion that demands respect from its loyalists and opposition alike.

Since its advent in 2014, the 919 has always penned stories at the hands of drivers who lived to tell the tale, and even in its last breath, it managed to leave champions a smile on their faces by fighting its way to the very end of its lifespan and even if its reign ends, the story never ends for Porsche's motorsport pedigree.

Thank you, 919 Hybrid.

Second-generation BMW X4 (G02)

BMW introduced the X4 four years ago which is nothing more of a jacked-up version of the BMW 3-Series saloon or 3 Series Gran Turismo or 4-Series Gran Coupe or whatever and the conclusion is like its X6 big brother, it's just another one of BMW's wrongs that cannot be rewritten right. So, with the second-generation X4 now in the open, has the Sports Activity Coupe that serves as the baby brother of the X6 got it right? Let's investigate.

2019 BMW X4
2019 BMW X4

The jacked-up version of BMW's entry-level saloon is now on its second generation and upon your first encounter with the original X4, has the new model ever changed? Starting from the design view, the exterior's heavily redesigned while retaining the side view of the original. Sure, the front view looks auspiciously familiar by BMW standards, but the rear view is somewhat worth noticing because you may notice that the model name badges are now below rather than above the rear lamps, and as far as the eye can see, this new layout could set a new BMW standard for future models where the model name emblems are now positioned below the rear lamps a la MB coupes of today. It all seems suspicious over this new move but behind the new look, it's still an X4.

2019 BMW X4 interior

The interior looks a bit the same as the original but while the uniform interior is a buzzkill for luxury car standards, toying around the car's gizmos is a great way to get to know each other such as BMW ConnectedDrive, BMW Connected, Amazon Alexa compatibility (giving you the ability to tell the Alexa from your Amazon Echo to open the car for you and do things), Apple CarPlay connectivity, and so much more. Having fun with the gadgets, the comforts are still above average by luxury car standards, especially with its sloping roofline and it's starting to feel like you're riding with your auntie's luxury crossover. Space-wise, the boot capacity of 525 liters as well as its fastback styling really means that it's big enough to fit some stuff you shopped for rummage sales or for some boring birthday parties. If you're feeling adventurous, you can fold the rear seats to fit some more stuff like your BMX or some gym equipment you've ordered from the sports store. Practical, I dare say.

2019 BMW X4

Now, the performance is something worth noticing on the new X4, and by launch, the 2.0L engines can be either petrol and diesel while the M Performance variant carries three liters while on the subject of not focusing on diesel engines because this is a German car, focus shifts on the petrol variants with the most economical being the xDrive20i bearing less than 7.1L/100km of fuel efficiency with the most powerful being the M40i, producing 360PS of power and 500Nm of torque, capable of going to 100kph in 4.8 seconds. All models are mated to an 8-speed Steptronic gearbox.

Like the previous model, the new X4 retains the standard xDrive all-wheel drive system, making it capable on various types of road conditions, be it tarmac, gravel, or snow, although the consequences as felt from its big brother couldn't be far behind on this new model. BMW says that they had improved the dynamics to make it more refined than the previous model but the end result is still between a rock and a hard place. Apart from that, BMW jammed the new X4 with numerous safety features such as Cruise Control with braking function as well as Collision and Pedestrian Warning with City Collision Mitigation, among many others. Slap it with the Driving Assistant Plus safety package and the result is a driving experience worth surrendering your driving license forever. Weird, isn't it?

2019 BMW X4

Should you buy it? The new X4 starts at 49,700 Euros with taxes and fees included and while it sounds like a much to burden with its pricing, it is still worth a start to buy in case you can't afford the big and heavy X6. So, has the new X4 improved from the previous model? Sort of, if you may, and while the addition of the M40i is a welcome feat to introduce drivers to the new X4, the rights, and wrongs are still in place in the new model, and being unrivaled, it remains a niche car that makes it less noticeable than the next car. In other words, this new car has a tough act to follow.

Disney-Pixar's The Incredibles 2

14 years ago, the world of Disney and Pixar introduced us to THE INCREDIBLES, the story of a family of superheroes band together to stop a fan-turned-supervillain from wrecking havoc in the metropolis. Years changed and this film became one of the all-time Disney greats and at long last, the sequel has arrived to see how much THE INCREDIBLES have changed since the beginning.

The Incredibles 2
After 14 years since the original film, the long-awaited sequel brings back The Incredibles in their newest adventure that goes beyond their superpowers. Following the events from the first film, things have changed for the family as Elastagirl gets a new job from an agency who wants to bring back superheroes back to existence. With Mrs. Incredible now back as a full-time superhero, the family are now adjusting to their new lease in life and while she's on her full-time job saving the day, the family are figuring out baby Jack-Jack's newest powers. Things changed but their ways of being Incredible are far from over.

Considered to be the perfect Father's Day treat, The Incredibles 2 really is a dream come true for all the Disney aficionados waiting for 14 years to see them back together for another stint and it's starting to take form that this film's becoming more connected as a family-oriented film rather than the first film, although there are some loopholes that hadn't been fixed from the start.

Call it above average if you may but no matter the result, it's been worth the wait for those itching to see The Incredibles back for more and in the spirit of Disney and Pixar collaboration, it's picking up to become a superhero flick that promises to be more family-oriented than the original.
