Visiting the Summer Mahouto Market 2018

A few moments ago, I went to the Yesler Community Center to check out what is known to be the last Mahouto Market event ever to happen in the streets of Seattle, WA. It's sad to see this one go but the folks from this event are pulling the stops to ensure that their last Mahouto Market event will be the best as they offer the best artworks commissioned by the talented artists across the Pacific Northwest.

Here are some of the bits and bobs I took in the last Mahouto Market event in Seattle. It's been an honor to have such a nice event that will showcase the coolest artworks made by the PNW illustrators for everyone to see.

2018 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup - FireKeepers Casino 400

America roars through two oval events over the course of this race weekend. On the Indy side, there was a 600-mile race occurred somewhere at the Lone Star State while on the NASCAR side, there's this. The FireKeepers Casino 400 held at Michigan International Speedway and looks like the state that gave birth to the American motoring is starting to come alive with 400 miles of oval-racing action, something you can expect in the world of NASCAR.

On the 35th lap of the race, trouble's brewing as David Ragan and Bubba Wallace got spun out in a middle of a close-quarter nudge. Ryan Blaney wins Stage 1. In Lap 66, Daniel Suarez got spun at Turn 4. In Lap 86, Kyle Larson got spun at Turn 4 as well. Meanwhile, Kevin Harvick wins Stage 2. In Lap 129, Ricky Stenhouse got spun at Turn 2 and then goes the raindrops that signaled the end of the race, with just 67 laps to go, with Clint Bowyer named the winner of the FireKeepers Casino 400.

A result no one saw it coming when the race was ended abruptly due to rain but that's the NASCAR way, baby. A 1-2-3 finish for Stewart-Haas Racing, now that is a show of force by nature.

Next race is at Sonoma Raceway for the Toyota Save Mart 350 on the 24th of June.

THREATS FROM NORTH KOREA: US, North Korea officials in final summit preparations

North Korean and US negotiators met in Singapore for final preparations on the eve of an unprecedented summit between Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump, seeking to bridge the gaps over Pyongyang's nuclear arsenal.

Tuesday's meeting will be the first between the two leaders, whose nuclear and ballistic missile ambitions have raised global concerns and seen tensions soar.

The summit has raised hopes of progress towards a peace treaty to formally end the Korean War, the last festering legacy of the Cold War after hostilities only stopped with an armistice.

But Pyongyang is demanding as yet unspecified security guarantees and the end of what it calls a “hostile policy” towards it and has not made clear what concessions it is offering over the nuclear arsenal it calls its “treasured sword” to defend against a US invasion.

The North, which has been subjected to increasingly strict sanctions by the UN Security Council and others, has made promises of change in the past, such as at the lengthy Six-Party Talks process, only for the agreements to collapse later.

“We remain committed to the complete, verifiable, irreversible denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tweeted.

The mercurial US leader has whipsawed on expectations for the meeting, signaling that it could be the beginning of a “process” of several meetings, only to call it a “one-time shot” for peace as he embarked for Singapore.

He would know “within the first minute” whether an agreement would be possible, he added.

“Great to be in Singapore, excitement in the air!” he tweeted Monday.

The North has sought such a meeting for decades, where its leader will meet a US president as an equal rather than as the representative of a pariah state.

But analysts warn that it risks being more of a media event than an occasion of substantial progress and delegations from the two sides were negotiating at a neutral hotel in Singapore to try to address their differences.

The previous US stance, said Bruce Klingner of the Heritage Foundation, was that “we don’t deploy a president to negotiate a treaty, we deploy a president to sign a treaty where we know where every piece of punctuation is on that piece of paper”.

“One of my worries is that we come out of this Singapore summit with something that looks remarkably like the Six Party Talks or anything that the president has previously criticised but it is hyped as something that’s historic and new and groundbreaking,” he added.
