THREATS FROM NORTH KOREA: First Trump-Kim summit scheduled



The White House said that a first meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will take place at 0900 hours in Singapore on June 12.

“We are actively preparing for the June 12th summit between the president and the North Korean leader,” spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in announcing the timing of the meeting.

“We feel like things are continuing to move forward, and good progress has been made.”

Sanders said that the White House “advance team” — which features military, security, technical and medical staff — were already on the ground in the Southeast Asian state.

They are “finalizing preparations and will remain in place until the summit begins,” said Sanders.

She added that Trump is getting daily briefings on North Korea in the runup to the landmark meeting.

“I can tell you the president has been receiving daily briefings on North Korea from his national security team,” said Sanders.

- The low pressure area east of Mindanao has now developed into a Tropical Depression locally called Domeng. As 1000 hours local time, As of 10:00 a.m. today, ‘Domeng’ was spotted 675 kilometers East of Guiuan, Eastern Samar. It has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gusts reaching 60 kilometers per hour (kph) and will bring moderate to heavy rains within its 200-km diameter.

- The Supreme Court did not resolve the motion filed last week by Maria Lourdes P. A. Sereno who sought the reversal of the May 11 decision that ousted her as chief justice and head of the judiciary. Instead, the SC, during its full court session, required the Office of the Solicitor General, which filed the case against Sereno in behalf of the government, to comment on the motion within a non-extendable period of five (5) days from receipt of the order.

- The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency has tagged about 93 government officials in the new drug list. In Tuesday’s press briefing, PDEA Director-General Aaron Aquino said the new list included some congressmen and mayors.

- PhilHealth chief Celestina Ma. Jude dela Serna was fired by President Duterte due to excessive trips less than a week after firing another official.

- Starbucks chief Howard Schultz announced that he was retiring from the company, fueling rumors that he may run for president in 2020. Schultz, 64, has been serving as executive chairman of Starbucks since stepping down as chief executive in April.

- Grab launched its innovation arm to develop technology start-ups in sectors such as transport, food services, logistics and financial services, further expanding beyond ride-hailing. Grab, which made its start as a taxi-booking app six years ago, has ventured into areas including payments and food delivery. Earlier this year, it bought Uber Technologies’regional operations.

- Honda pulled the wraps of their N-VAN, which will be available this summer.

THREATS FROM NORTH KOREA: Kim Jong-un's top aide ended US trip



North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's top aide, Kim Yong-choi, ended his four-day US visit during which he met with US President Donald Trump.

Kim Yong-choi left New York City late Saturday afternoon, local time, and arrived in Beijing on Sunday enroute back to Pyongyang. Kim is said to have spent the night at the North's Embassy in Beijing and will fly back on Monday. He had arrived in New York City last Wednesday and then held two days of meetings with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that included a working dinner on Wednesday and high-level talks on Thursday.

On Friday, he visited the White House and delivered a personal letter to President Trump from Kim Jong-un, after which President Trump announced that the US-North Korea summit is back.

In the meantime, South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha talked on the phone with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday. During the 15-minute talk Monday morning, Pompeo briefed Kang on the results of North Korea's top envoy Kim Yong-choi's US trip.

The two top diplomats also exchanged views on the upcoming US-North Korea summit and agreed to keep cooperating, even after the summit, to achieve peace and denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.

- As the new school year begins, DepED secretary Leonor Briones said they're addressing the problem of classroom shortage, according to reports. A total of 85,000 classrooms are expected to be added this year. The DepEd said multi-storey buildings are the solution in the National Capital Region due to the limited space available. School year 2018-2019 opened on Monday with 27.7 million students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 going to their classes in public and private schools.

- Relations between the Philippines and South Korea are expected to be deepened with the planned cooperation accords on transportation safety, technological development, port expansion, and revitalized trade during President Duterte’s official visit. The four bilateral agreements will be signed after Duterte’s meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the Blue House scheduled today.

- The power lines-anchored national broadband project of the Philippine government that will command multi-phase investments totaling US$7.5 billion will finally make headway with the scheduled signing of the tripartite agreement on this venture this week.

- First Lady Melania Trump, the wife of US President Donald Trump, will not attend the G7 summit in Quebec this week or planning to accompany him to the expected US-North Korea summit the week after.

- 7 people died while 20 hurt by an erupted volcano in Guatemala. The Volcan de Fuego exploded shortly before noon. Hours later, around 1600 hours local time, lava began flowing down the side of the mountain. Eddy Sanchez, director of the country’s seismology and volcanology institute, said the flows reached temperatures of about 1,300 degrees Fahrenheit (700 Celsius).

- Pope Francis called for dialogue in Nicaragua after new clashes killed at least seven people, the latest bloodshed in weeks of anti-government protests that have left more than 100 dead.

- A Trump economic adviser admit that the trade dispute with US allies could jeopardize the booming American economy but dismissed criticism of the administration’s stance as overblown. Larry Kudlow’s remarks came after finance ministers from the Group of Seven industrialized countries on Saturday expressed outrage over US-imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum and called on Washington to reverse course.

- New Italian right-wing interior minister Matteo Salvini said that "common sense" was needed to stop the country from being “Europe’s refugee camp” as he visited a migrant center in the south. The newly minted deputy prime minister in Italy’s populist coalition government traveled to Sicily, one of the country’s main refugee landing points, to push the anti-immigration platform that propelled him to power.

- BMW uncovered details for their next Z4 roadster as their range-topping M40i variant will carry a more powerful and turbocharged six-cylinder engine mated with an 8AT, lowered sports suspension with electronically controlled dampers, a newly developed front axle, M light alloy wheels with a staggered tyre set-up, M sports brake system and an electronically controlled lock in the rear axle differential.

2018 Verizon IndyCar Series - Chevrolet Dual in Detroit

After experiencing Indy 500 hangovers, the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series continues at Belle Isle for the two-parter Chevrolet Dual in Detroit event. The first part is a special one because it crosses over with the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship while the second part is nothing personal because it's all IndyCar action you can expect in Motor City.


In the first part of the race, a trio of Honda-powered IndyCars occupied the podium at the end of the race. Scott Dixon, Ryan Hunter-Reay, and Alexander Rossi to name a few. In the latter part of the race, minding the embarassing pace car crash heard round the world, Ryan Hunter-Reay's 42-race winless streak has broken after winning the race by 11.3549 seconds ahead of Will Power.

The next race is at Texas Motor Speedway for the DXC Technology 600 on the 9th of June, 2018.

DTM 2018 - Budapest

The 2018 DTM season continues in the Hungaroring as the Eastern Bloc will experience the tremor of Germany's premiere touring car series with lots of drama in store for this race.


In the first race, Paul Di Resta and Lucas Auer nicked their 1-2 finish for Mercedes-Benz but the overtaking issue had them questioning. Then, Lucas Auer, Edoardo Mortara and Bruno Spengler are disqualified from Race 2 due to accidents at the pit lane. From that race, after numerous interruptions due to weather conditions, BMW nicked a 1-2-3 finish with Marco Wittmann named the winner followed by Timo Glock and Philipp Eng.

After Hungary, Timo Glock's leading the standings at the score of 90 followed by Gary Paffett with the score of 79 points and Paul Di Resta at the score of 67 points.

2018 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup - Pocono 400

Before the rest of Americans hurry home to catch up on a second game of their favorite basketball match happening now, all eyes on Pennsylvania's Pocono Raceway, home of the Tricky Triangle, for the Pocono 400, part of the NASCAR Salutes event honoring the men and women in service with the military. After honoring America's brave, the race is on for whoever will survive the Tricky Triangle.


With last year's champion Martin Truex Jr. won Stage 1 and Kevin Harvick won Stage 2, madness ensues as in Lap 146, Denny Hamlin got spun at Turn 1 and hit a wall.

Martin Truex Jr. is the winner of the Pocono 400 race, making it his 17th career win from his 455th start.

Next race is at Michigan International Speedway for the FireKeepers Casino 400 on the 10th of June.
