My FM Log: The Last Schuhplattler

The second-generation Audi R8 has reached its endgame and this facelifted version is the sign of the time that Audi's first and only rear-wheel-drive machine will head to the great junkyard in the sky.

Players of the new Forza Motorsport game have until November 16th to fully clear the Open Class Tour from C Class Series to S Class Series to obtain the 2020 Audi R8 V10 performance and then take it for a spin in its own Reward Showcase event. If you haven't done it, now's the time to do so.

The second-generation Audi R8 was facelifted for the 2020 Model Year featuring a revised design and improved performance.

In addition to its revamped front face and rear bumpers, the Lamborghini-derived 5.2L V10 engine that powers it has been improved to produce 30hp and 10Nm more than the previous model, giving it 562hp of power and 550Nm of torque, delivering a 0-100kph time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 324kph. In the performance variant, the same V10 engine gets 612hp of power and 580Nm of torque, slightly more powerful than the old R8 V10 plus variant it replaces.

The facelifted second-generation R8 features improved suspension setup as well as adding three new settings to the R8's Audi drive select system; dry, wet, and snow. It even comes with optional dynamic steering and electromechanical power steering as well.

It's wise for the new Forza Motorsport game to feature the facelifted second-generation Audi R8, in V10 performance trim, because while this is truly the last R8 Audi will ever make, the producers want its soon-to-be-bereaved Audi fanatics to savor the final moments of this car by driving the R8 harder and louder for longer before Audi pulls the plug on their first-and-only rear-wheel-drive V10-powered supercar that uses most of the learnings from Lamborghini, which Audi has control of it.

As the world bids farewell to the Audi R8, I decided to have one last push by driving it around the Nurburgring Grand Prix Circuit, the official venue of Formula 1's German Grand Prix. While this is basically the ultimate resting place for the V10-powered R8, it looks like it's not the only one that's about to get Rest In Pieces...

There's also the third-generation Audi TT, in RS trim, that's about to head to the great junkyard in the sky.

As the high-performance version of the third-generation Audi TT, the TT RS is the ultimate all-around sports car capable of taking through uncharted heights no sports car in its class dared to go beyond.

Powered by the five-cylinder 2.5L turbocharged engine, the Audi TT RS produces 400PS of power and 480Nm of torque. Mated to a 7-speed DSG, the Audi TT RS sprints from 0-100kph in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 280kph thanks to an optional extra.

With the two Audi sports cars stepping out for one last Schuhplattler, it's time to find out which one has the last laugh. TT, R8, give us your last dance before your imminent deaths. Roll the tapes.

The R8 V10 performance did it in 2m18.655s while the TT RS did it in 2m29.656s. Yes, the R8 defeated the TT RS by a long margin but what they did is a fitting end of themselves.

When the R8 dies, Audi will bid Auf Wiedersehen to its GT-class racing programs as it focuses on its return to top-class endurance racing and also its Formula 1 entry.

Such sacrifices have to be made for the greater good and although tearful to watch both of these Audi sports cars experience euthanasia, their legacies will never die. The R8 and the TT may be completely different but together, they've accomplished their mission like a brave German soldier in his dying moments.

Auf Wiedersehen, R8 and TT. You made us proud until the very end.

New Audi R8 Spyder vs. Ferrari 488 Spider vs. Lamborghini Huracan Spyder

You're a rich man, you spend a lot of time doing stuff at the CEO's desk and then going out gambling your luck at the casino on your day-off. You have a lot of money to spend on those super-fast cars but your probability of your choosing would be open-top supercars because you want to look cool driving on those things. There are three choices, which one would you go for?

2017 Audi R8 Spyder

Let's take a look at your first choice of the latest open-top supercars on the market today, the brand new Audi R8 V10 Spyder. You may have noticed that while it maybe slightly heavier than its hardtop equivalent, it still comes with its new Audi Space Frame as well as its 5.2 V10 engine developing 540PS of power and 540Nm of torque, while mated to a 7-speed double clutch gearbox which shifts like magic bur that doesn't stop you from spoiling your day out with this open-top supercar, especially that it can get from 0 to 100kph in 3.6 seconds and onwards to 318kph. Because it's priced less than two hundred grand, this new Audi R8 Spyder is a supercar bargain.

2017 Ferrari 488 Spider

Then, let's take a look on the new Ferrari 488 Spider, which is an updated version of the old 458 Spider, the car that will make everyone agree that it's the best mid-engined supercar ever made. It may have the same V8 as the old 458 but it's been miniaturized and turbocharged so this 4.0L Twin Turbo V8 engine produces 670PS of power output while mated to its F1 7-speed double clutch gearbox, resulting to its 0 to 100 km/h time in 3 seconds. While it may slightly more than the coupe version, its dynamics remain just as fun as the normal one and with the roof up, the upside of having one on the track day meet is that while you can enjoy its F1-inspired dynamics, you can really hear the noise of its V8 engine very clearly but since this is turbocharged, you can't hold your case for a little while longer, knowing this this Ferrari's too matured for its own good.

2017 Lamborghini Huracan Spyder

Or if you're unhappy with those two, you can have the Lamborghini Huracan Spyder instead. Like the new Audi R8, it has a 5.2L V10 engine but it produces 610PS of power output while mated to the same 7-speed double-clutch gearbox as the R8. The age of V10 engines maybe soon endangered but with the Huracan Spyder, you can assure that this modern open-top supercar still has that old-school charm that car enthusiasts really love to listen like the sounds of good old 80's rock and roll from their old CD collections. Because this is a Lamborghini, you can be very addictive while driving this open-top Huracan on the road and on the track, despite the added weight on it.

With these open-top supercars currently available on the market, it's hard to decide which one is the best. The Audi R8 Spyder has the most value for money, the Ferrari 488 Spider for its power that beats them in their own little game of top trumps, and the Lamborghini Huracan Spyder for its old-school charm that wouldn't settle for anything else. How you live it up and sum it up with those three is up to you, my dear bachelor and bachelorette.

Forza Motorsport 6: The new Audi R8

r8

One of the hottest cars demanded to be featured in Forza Motorsport 6, the all-new Audi R8, has arrived via the Top Gear Car Pack and with its arrival in-game, this is just what the starman has ordered for. Heh, I'm very sure the producers should have faith in car-related sites rather than going through used car dealers or junkyards for some inspiration to add cars in-game via DLC. In fact, the new R8's long-awaited arrival on FM6 is just the tip of the iceberg.

r8 (2)

Since its launch in 2007, the R8, which is named after a winning Le Mans Prototype, inspired from the Le Mans quattro concept and features Lamborghini components, served as the halo sportscar of Audi. For 2015, the Audi R8 is now on its second-generation and it features components seen on its sister car, the Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4.

Premiered at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the all-new Audi R8 features a new Audi SpaceFrame, new interior (including the Audi Virtual Cockpit), new exterior, and so on. Because it features components from the Lamborghini Huracan, the new R8 features an updated 5.2L V10 engine with two power outputs; 540PS for the base model and 610PS for the range-topping V10 plus model. In the V10 plus model, equipped with the S tronic double clutch transmission, 0-100kph takes about 3.2 seconds and onwards to 330kph.

The second-generation Audi R8 was produced at quattro GmbH's new Bollinger Hofe site, close to the Neckarsulm plant. Prices start from 165,000 to 187,400 Euros.

r8 (3)

Having spent three minutes driving the R8, I assumed that this new model will end up as their favorite Audi in-game that can be driven all the time. I mean, isn't that the Audi we've been longing for to drive in-game rather than the previous model? Nevertheless, because this is the German equivalent of the Lamborghini Huracan I drove, it really feels pretty much the same as the Huracan but in a different kind of manner because the new R8's not stupid enough to handle track days seriously. It maybe a four-wheel drive car but it behaves as what a proper sportscar should and I'm starting to enjoy it more than the old R8. Speaking of which, I'm here at Yas Marina Circuit where the new R8 faces off against the predecessor.

r8 (4)

Past meets present, right? This should be fun because this comparison between the old and the new will see how much the new R8 has improved, despising the naysayers that its new look is more of a facelift. See if I care...

Thanks to the newly improved Audi SpaceFrame as well as its new V10 engine from the Huracan and motorsport pedigree that has been inspired from the old R8 LMS as well as the R18, the new R8 feels like a walk in the park compared to the previous R8. All that hard work from quattro GmbH has really payed off to deliver a sportscar unlike any other. With such result, I managed to lap this car round Yas Marina Circuit in 2:35.137, compared to the old model's 2:38.546.

Impressed by how good the new R8 performed against the old R8? For me, it is, but for this car, it's not over yet because it still has some old friends to deal with and that's one thing I'll do it later as the all new R8 revisits its old friends and new enemies.

Audi R8 - Second Generation

Since its launch in 2007, the Audi R8, named after a prize-winning Le Mans racing prototype, is engineered to be Audi's first bona fide supercar that can tackle against supercars in its ranks, but weirdly, it's just a toned-down version of the Gallardo. With the rise of the Lamborghini Huracan, looks like the Audi R8 supercar is ready for its make-up transformation by regenerating it to an all new model.
2016 Audi R8

At first look, you will notice that the new model looks similarly the same as the previous model it replaces but Audi insists that this is a brand-new car engineered from the ground up and it features some of the components derived from the Lamborghini Huracan. It's got a toned-down version of the same 5.2L V10 engine from the Huracan, a brand new space-age bodywork, and lots of brand new features. So the question now is, does this new model now have the sense of humor that the old model can't?

2016 Audi R8

Judging by the way the new model behaves, this new model still doesn't laugh in a comedic manner every time when it sees an old rich lady and her mute yaya tagging along on the public, and don't even think about finding the fun factor inside because for this all-new model, the manual gearbox has been thrown away and the only gearbox you can find is Audi's 7-speed S-tronic double clutch gearbox, the same as you can find on the Lamborghini Huracan. While enthusiasts are pining themselves on the manual gearbox's demise, this double-clutch gearbox works brilliantly with its 5.2 V10 engine developing 610PS of power and 560Nm of torque in the range-topping Plus variant. It will do 0-100kph in 3.2 seconds and onwards to 330kph, which is blisteringly more than what the Huracan pulls out in the bag. For fuel efficiency, the new model also comes with a device that can shut off its engines at a set of lights.

Thanks to the new Audi Space Frame, the new R8's tub features a blend of carbon fiber and aluminium, making it easier and repair and durable when you ding it on the bumps. It's the same blend that you can expect on the Huracan as well.

2016 Audi R8 interior

You might imagine that all four-wheel drive cars are more grippy than rear-wheel drive cars but for the new R8, it isn't. Thanks to its midship-engine 4WD layout, it still manages to be as tail-happy as possible and well-communicative on the bends thanks to its responsive electromechanical power steering system. Some say that this new R8 behaves like a sportscar rather than a supercar but that's just a compliment because even though it's a bewitching machine you can take out on the open roads, it's still very civilized.

On the interior, it's all about being driver-focused and nothing else because the sat-nav system is now located on the instrumental panel rather than a separate screen. That's sounds nice but be wary though that even though it features a blend of science-fiction and brute force, its sat-nav remains rubbish even when driving on ancient cities like Bologna or Intramuros or Jerusalem or any other ancient cities in history. You have to rely on your local knowledge get through your destination rather than relying on its sat-nav because pretty soon, you'll feel like you've been left behind in traffic or small gaps.

2016 Audi R8

Yes, the new interior can be somewhat problematic but nothing's more problematic than the price tag itself and it starts from 165,000 to 187,400 Euros. That's quite a lot for a supercar and you're going to spend more for some optional extras. So, despite the pricing, the all new R8 is a potent supercar that drives fast than the old model, handles better, and in the real world, well-mannered. The loss of the manual gearbox and its questionable interior sounds more of a let-down for some but nevertheless, the new R8 can surely be one of the best cars to drive this year.

Available colors: Dynamitrot, Ibisweiß, Vegasgelb, Camouflagegrun Metallic, Florettsilber Metallic, Mythosschwarz Metallic, Suzukagrau Metallic, Daytonagrau Perleffekt, Arablau Kristalleffekt, and Camouflagegrun Matteffekt.

Forza Motorsport 5: Audi R8 V10 - old vs. new -

r8

r8

For the first time in Forza history, I finally got my hands on the brand new Audi R8 V10 or to be precise, the Audi R8 V10 plus. The facelifted version of the R8 looks pretty much the same but with the addition of the V10 plus model, it truly sets it apart from the old R8 V10 model, which you can find on Forza Motorsport 5.

r8

r8

The question is, is the plus version of the Audi R8 V10 really an improvement to the old Audi R8 V10? To find out, I went to the Top Gear Test Track using both the old R8 V10 and the new R8 V10 plus model. The fastest time is the winner.

r8

r8

For a quick briefing about the new Audi R8 V10 plus; it uses the Audi R8 5.2 FSi quattro as its base. The R8 V10 Plus features a new S tronic double-clutch transmission as well as the updated version of the 5.2 V10 engine generating 550HP of power output.

With those improvements, the R8 V10 Plus can accumulate a 0-60mph time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of around 197mph.

The old Audi R8 V10 finished at the time of 1:22.314 while the new Audi R8 V10 Plus finished at 1:21.675, a second quicker. So, there we have it. The new R8 V10 Plus really made some improvements to keep Audi's first bonafide supercar with some Lamborghini components in it fresh and ready having aged through the years. Well, I'm glad I finally got behind the wheel of this facelifted R8 V10.

Forza Horizon: V10-powered cousins

A Black Knight in Shining Armor

This is the Audi R8 GT, it's somewhat an improved version of the Audi R8 V10, which in the world of Forza, was one of the best cars I have ever driven since FM3 and for a car that is limited to 333 units worldwide, the R8 GT has an updated 5.2L V10 engine that produces about the same power as the Gallardo LP560-4. That's right, the GT version develops about 560HP of power! Think about it though, for a car that really doesn't have a sense of humor (no matter the corny punchline you'll throw), the R8 GT is definitely a serious lightweight exotic that was trimmed down for perfection and using the knowledge of Audi's motorsport enrichment since Le Mans....

Into the dark skies

Because the V10 engine's upgraded and it lost a hundred kilograms thanks to Audi's consistent use of lightweight materials, 0-60mph time is 3.6 seconds and on a straight, it goes about 320kph according to the manufacturer. It terms of driving feel, the R8 GT is really a sharp handler on its own right. Even though it's a 4WD exotic with its engine mounted at the middle, the R8 GT sure knows how to dance in the corners unlike any other 4WD cars that goes too much grip. It really tickles my instincts but sometimes it really bores me a lot, sort of...

R8 GT showing the nite grooves

Surprisingly though, because the Audi R8 is just a German take of the Lamborghini Gallardo despite the fact that the R8 has some of the Lamborghini components, I was gonna think that the GT version is the Audi equivalent of the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera but question is, is the R8 GT better than its Italian stalemate?

It's the Superleggera, hear it roar

The lesser the weight, the more interesting it gets

Uh....this is somewhat too much because while the Audi R8 GT is all about being a serious driver's car, the Gallardo Superleggera is all about being insane. While having the insane V10 engine, same as the R8 GT's, the insane V10 noise, the insane design that present Lambos get, and its Lamborghini quality, the Gallardo Superleggera really thinks that the R8 GT tries to mimick its moves and by judgement, comparing between the R8 GT and the Superleggera is confusing but hey, it seems that the Superleggera was there in the first place of being the lightweight version of the Gallardo and by terms of Superleggera; less weight, more fun. The Audi R8 GT is quite somewhat a carbon copy of the Gallardo Superleggera because they both have improved V10s and they both gone to the South Beach Diet.

What's this? A ray of light coming?

When I drove both the R8 and the Gallardo, those experiences I felt on these cars are pretty much the same but sometimes different, depending on my driving style, road conditions, and their moment of truth. Only someone with a keen judgment can decide which of these two is the better bet and as it turned out, it's not that easy picking a winner between these two...

Try driving these two and you'll see the difference...

Welcome Back: 2008 Audi R8 & 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro

If you've been affected by the oil crisis,
this is the supercar to buy!

That is where this comes in. It's the sensation of the year 2007, the Audi R8. It's not just because of its spaceship-running lights that made it a sensation. This is Audi's first exotic sports car that was named after a winning Le Mans Prototype, inspired by the Le Mans Quattro concept car, and it shares most of the Lamborghini components. If you're prepared to have one without some luxury, then yes you can because it has half the price of the Lamborghini Gallardo. Under the hood lies a 4.2L V8 engine that generates 414BHP and 317Nm of torque. 0-60mph in 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 190mph. With its lightweight body, delicious steering, and sophisticated quattro technology, you can make this car dance.

Jeremy Clarkson drove this on Top Gear until he was challenged by the Porsche 911 (997) driven by Richard Hammond. Despite it can corner better than the Porsche 911, Clarkson and the R8 lost in a drag race against Hammond and the 911. Courtesy of The Stig, it went around the Top Gear Test Track in 1.24.4, faster than the Brabus Biturbo Roadster!

It appeared on the Clarkson Supercar Showdown DVD. Nurburgring genius, Sabine Schmitz, pilots the Audi R8 against The Stig and the already beaten-up Porsche 911 GT3. As a result, the Audi R8 lost the battle against the 911 GT3 in a drag race, and around the Ascari Race Resort, therefore Jeremy Clarkson kissed The Stig.

In Top Gear's One Gallon Fuel Crisis Race, the Audi R8 survived and won the race with 5MPG, winning against the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, Aston Martin DBS, and the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.

If an Audi R8 with a V8 engine wasn't a good match for you...then what about this?

This R8 is a bit too joyless....

It's the Audi R8 V10. It has a V10 engine from a Lamborghini Gallardo, 525HP, top speed of 196mph, and absolutely no sense of humor at all.

Here's a joke from Jeremy Clarkson from his DVD, Duel;

"Why are elephants big, grey, and hairy? Because if they were small, white, and round, they'd be aspirins"

Nothing. Nobody laughed at this joke. Nothing.

With a car that has no sense of humor, this is very possibly the best car I've ever driven. A Range Rover is better in a field, a Bugatti Veyron is a more complete engineering package, but the Audi R8 V10 is just sensational. The brakes, steering, and the noise are definitely perfect. This is becoming one of the best Audi sports cars ever made...or is it?

This car was reviewed by Jeremy Clarkson and despite being lost to a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, it corners better than the ZR1. With the lap time of 1.21.6 courtesy of The Stig, the R8 V10 is slower than its main rival, the Corvette ZR1.

This car showed up on Clarkson Duel DVD and thanks to the APPLE OF THE APEX, APPLE OF THE EXIT test, it was proven to be one of the best-drifting cars even though it used the wrong wheel. However, a lesson learned is that with Anthony Davidson wearing ice skates, it's impossible to drift the R8 V10. Yep, impossible to drift a car while wearing ice skates.

It also appeared on Richard Hammond's Top Gear Uncovered DVD and it lost to a drag race against the Porsche 911 Turbo (997).

Either way, both the Audi R8 and the Audi R8 V10 are just one of the finest Audis ever made because enthusiasts love to have a hand with those. Even though they were beaten by Porsches, they still have the best looks.

One day at Barrier Audi - About the R8 Spyder

Audi R8 Spyder front

Audi R8 Spyder rear

I gotta admit it that the convertible version of the hot Audi R8 sports car, the Audi R8 Spyder looks brilliant to see a drop-top version of the blockbuster midship quattro sports car. Fast fact that it was featured in the Iron Man 2 movie.

Audi R8 Spyder interior

Practice shifting the R-tronic tranny

Practicing driving this exotic

With the roof open, I can assume that the R8 Spyder is one heck of a 2-seat roadster, something only the elite can get through. It's amazing that this one is loaded with the MMI and the R8 exclusive R-tronic transmission.

And proud of it, man!

Good thing the R8 Spyder is one of my favorite Audis that was offered in Bellevue's Barrier Audi dealer and I believe this one's progress as much as the slogan's "Luxury has Progressed" that was made to be unbelievable.

This R8 Spyder is hot and I like it!

Audi R8 Spyder

Audi's première sports car, the R8, still proves that this is the greatest Satanic road mauler adults urinate themselves in fear. But the fear over the German behemoth is now also in convertible form. This convertible version of the R8 made its début at the 2009 IAA in Frankfurt, Germany.

Audi's new R8 Spyder carries the same semblance of dualism, as seen on the regular coupé form, while taking the heat (or wind) of the convertible at the same pace. Surely, this is the monster every sports car fanatics bow down before the supercar's might, the R8 Spyder only carries the high-revving 5.2 FSI V10 engine, which is capable of releasing over 500 PS of power and the 0-100km/h runtime of below four seconds. With the V10 engine equipped, this Autobahn behemoth is truly a spectacle among enthusiasts, waiting to get their pants urinated for fear.

My Thoughts about the R8 Spyder:
Designed as an open-top road mauler for adults, the R8 Spyder might strike others to put this car to the list of fearsome creatures. Although the fearsome V10 FSI engine is the only engine available for this monster, it is surprising that the R8 Spyder is a twisted metal machine that strikes fear on the highway. Once you are inside, you will never get out of this road-killing sports car that surprises other people on a Saturday night, despite the pricing is just under 170,000 Euros. (11 Million Pesos)

Have fun enjoying this exotic sports car with a true evil heart and soul inside.
