Daihatsu Move Canbus (Gen 2)

Back in 2016, Daihatsu launched the Move Canbus, which is basically a kei minivan that is roughly as small as a Tanto but a fine choice for young Japanese females on the move. Now in its second generation, the new Canbus tries to continue where its predecessor left off with new features that will accommodate just about everyone looking for a dependable friend on wheels.

Priced at 1.496 million Yen plus additional costs, which is more expensive than its main rival, the Suzuki Wagon R Smile, the all-new Move Canbus is offered in two different styles; the single-colored Theory and the two-toned Stripes for those who want a little nod from the previous Canbus. Whichever Canbus you pick, the new model still looks fairly similar to the previous model it replaces and when you pack alongside them, you can't truly tell the difference between them.

While the new model features an awkwardly similar exterior design, the interior design has been heavily changed with a rather cozy dashboard design that works like a tray to place your stuff, especially your smartphone thanks to its optional wireless charging port. With the touchscreen monitor positioned above the dashboard and the speedo on the driver's side, the new interior is more functional than the previous model. In terms of comfort, it's still as roomy as its predecessor. It has four seats and it can be folded down for various situations, be it for work or for relaxation time, whichever floats your boat.

Now running on the DNGA platform, the new Canbus drives better and more smoothly compared to its predecessor. Under the hood, the new Canbus still runs on a 660cc 3-cylinder engine in natural aspiration and turbo configurations. Mated to a D-CVT gearbox, fuel economy is around 22.9km/L on the WLTC Mode scale, which is less efficient than the Suzuki Wagon R Smile as expected. On the bright side, it's more efficient than its bigger but cheaper sibling, the Tanto.

Having satisfied with its small sizing, DNGA platform, and improved NVH, the new Canbus is loaded with Daihatsu's new-generation Smart Assist that comes with up to 17 active safety features ranging from Collision Warning, Collision Avoidance Support Brake, false start suppression, line deviation warning and suppression control, stagger alarm, roadside deviation warning, sign recognition, AHB, ADB, ACC, LKC, Smart Panorama Parking Assist, and more. It's the safest Canbus ever made in times of the new normal.

Despite its stale looks and being outlasted by the Suzuki Smile, the all-new Daihatsu Canbus is ready to cater to typical Japanese people with its functional interior, improved driving, and tech that will make their day feel like it's the weekends. Feel free to relax with the all-new Canbus anytime you want.

Daihatsu Move/Subaru Stella (LA150/160) - 2018 minor change

Now on its 2018 model year, the Daihatsu Move and its Subaru Stella counterpart have been given a much-needed facelift, more than enough to introduce the latest upgrade to the Smart Assist system that promises to be its most groundbreaking feat yet for such kei cars while retaining its kei car personality that fits well to the Japanese youth.

2018 Daihatsu Move

So, what's new on the outside? On a regular Move or Stella, the front now comes with a new horizontally-shaped grille that now packs some style compared to the pre-facelifted model as well as its new bumper design and some new alloys, not to mentioned a slightly revised rear view. On the Custom variants, that shouty N BOX Custom-esque grille has been replaced with a much simpler design which is a throwback to the previous model's 2013 facelift from five years ago while the foglamps are now almost shaped like an exclamation point just to give a spot-on stance worthy to be a headturner. Also, the rear lamps are now revamped as well as its new and rakishly sharp alloy wheel design. On the inside, you can expect a revised instrumental panel as well as an enlarged 8-inch monitor display on the dashboard for range-topping variants.

Like the pre-facelifted models, they still come with the same 660cc 3-cylinder engine with fuel-efficient measures, CVT, and its "D monocoque" body structure that promises up to 31.0km/L while turbocharged models (Custom only) can get up to 27.4km/L. For 4WD variants, fuel efficiency is 27.6km/L while Custom-exclusive turbocharged variants can get up to 25.6km/L.

Now it's time to get through the heart of the facelifted Move/Stella and that is the brand new "Smart Assist III" and for this upgrade, it uses the world's smallest stereo camera and working in tandem with the sonar sensor, detection on leading vehicles as well as pedestrians have been improved sharply and it's been given Collision Warning Function and Collision Avoidance Support Brake function. Apart from that, the updated Move/Stella comes with Lane Departure Warning system, false start suppression control, forward vehicle start notice function, and auto high beam. There are other safety tech offered in this kei car but lest we leave it for those who want to try it.

Prices start at around 1,112,400 Yen for normal versions while Custom versions, hold on a second. Says here that for the Move Custom starts at 1,371,600 Yen while the Stella Custom, meanwhile, starts at 1,490,400 Yen. That sounds odd for pricing but who cares...

Daihatsu Move Canbus

We all seen kei minivans throughout Japan from the Daihatsu Tanto, the Honda N-BOX, the Suzuki Spacia, the Mitsubishi eK Space, and the Nissan Dayz Roox. These kinds of kei cars showcase that even when they're small, they can be as practical as any minivans get in their lifetime. As demographics continue to shift through the years, the Toyota-owned Daihatsu has created a brand new kei minivan that is targeted for young women in mind. Let's take a closer look at the new Move Canbus.

2017 Daihatsu Move Canbus

It's hard to tell if this new kei car kinda reminded you of the old VW Sambabus from the last century but trust them. This ain't no "hippie" car you are familiar with, this is a girl's car fit for whatever girls do on their day out like going to the mall, doing ridiculous poses on photo booths, going on a food trip, cosplaying outdoors, karaoke, whatever girly stuff they can do on their free time and then record it on their diaries and post it online to show it to the world about what they do. Sounds so much for a Japanese young females' routine from day by day and this new Canbus does fit to their lifestyles very well. Of course, while this is purely a kei minivan, the Move Canbus has two sliding doors; that's one more than the Tanto had, meaning it's very easier to get out of while on a day out with the chicks.

2017 Daihatsu Move Canbus interior
2017 Daihatsu Move Canbus interior

Although nothing to see much about the interior, there's a nifty trick you will notice and that goes in the rear seats. Dubbed as "Make up" Seat, this cool trick can handle most of your stuff under the rear seats when you slide it open. Of course, while this is obviously practical at first, it can get a bit flashy when you store your shopping bags on the Make up Seat but on the positive note, it can be pretty handy when you're in a middle of organizing stuff on your daily routine ahead on your busy schedule. Of course, there are other conveniences the Canbus can offer, even the luggage under box for more space in the back while the rear seats are present.

2017 Daihatsu Move Canbus

With the fuel consumption of around 28.6km/L from its 660cc engine, the Move Canbus is very frugal and very economical to get you going for more trips to the shops without worrying about a single drop of petrol. As for driving, the turning radius of 4.4m means that the Canbus is the easiest to live out with and the easiest to park. While it features an array of safety tech, the Canbus is the first Daihatsu to come with Bi-Angle LED Headlamp with AFS which allows the front headlamps to adapt to where you're steering at. This is plainly common in most modern cars using that tech but for a kei car, that sounds like it does work while taking the journey back home after your little day out with your pals.

The Canbus starts at 1,188,000 up to 1,668,600 Japanese Yen, which is the most affordable of all the Daihatsu kei minivans offered. Sounds like a bargain but because this is really a girl's car, don't even think about getting excited to have one because this car is all too much reflecting on what every young Japanese females do on their free time.

Subaru Stella (LA150F/LA160F)

2015 Subaru Stella Custom

2015 Subaru Stella

Coinciding with the launch of the brand new Daihatsu Move, it seems that Subaru is following suit as well as they borrowed their recently-launched Daihatsu Move for their new Stella kei car and here it is now.

The new Stella, which is a Daihatsu Move borrowed by Subaru, features a more rigid body work, more technological features, and a more fuel-efficient engine that is almost a top-of-class for this magnitude. Like the new Move, the brand-new Stella, in normal and Custom variants, is now 10mm higher than the previous model while retaining its 3,395mm in length, 1,475mm of width, and 2,455mm of wheelbase.

Like the new Daihatsu Move, the new Subaru Stella features a lightweight high-rigidity body structure, which features a more high-rigid body structure and an reinforced underbody, improved suspension system, and a power mode-switching steering switch that allows drivers to change the control of the engine and CVT at the touch of a button.

2015 Subaru Stella interior

2015 Subaru Stella Custom interior

The new models come with the updated version of their KF-VE 660cc 3-cylinder DOHC engine which has an improved fuel economy of 31.0km/L while turbocharged models (Custom only) can get up to 27.4km/L. Yes. This is the same thing you'd expect from the recently-launched Daihatsu Move and with those numbers, it's maybe more than the Mitsubishi eK Wagon rival but a little less than its chief rival, the Suzuki Wagon R with S-ENE-CHARGE.

Lastly for now, the new Stella, like the new Move (yes, you get the idea), features an updated Smart Assist feature (as an optional extra) where, for the first time, not only it detects forward objects but also objects from behind and triggers a beeping noise that you're approaching to a near-collision situation and brings this car to an automatic halt.

The new Subaru Stella starts at 1,134,000 Japanese Yen while the Custom version starts at 1,404,000 Yen.

Daihatsu Move - Sixth Generation (LA150/LA160)

Just before the Daihatsu Move reaches its 20th birthday next year, it has been given its much-awaited regeneration and for this sixth-generation model, the brand new Daihatsu Move features a brand new chassis as well as host of fuel-efficient and safety features that will keep them afloat for a few years before Japan has no room for their home-grown kei cars anymore.

2015 Daihatsu Move

2015 Daihatsu Move Custom
Like as always, the new Move features two different styles that suits your taste. There's the normal model if you're a bit budget-focused and there's the Custom model for those who think that style is what suits this kei car best. Whichever Move you'll choose, you'll be taking advantage of its improved chassis, improved fuel-economy, and some technological features that will enjoy you to bits.

2015 Daihatsu Move Custom

2015 Daihatsu Move

Even though it's a brand-new model, the dimensions are somewhat similar to the previous model. It's still 3,395mm in length, 1,475mm of width, and 2,455mm of wheelbase but the new model's height is somewhat 10mm higher than the previous model.

Behind the new look lies the lightweight high-rigidity body structure called "D monocoque" which features a more high-rigid body structure and an reinforced underbody, improved suspension system called "D suspension" and a power mode-switching steering switch that allows drivers to change the control of the engine and CVT at the touch of a button called "D assist". Those new improvements sounds fine but for the former's 810-890kg weight, it's now bumped to 820-900kg. Although the added weight sounds more of a smaller penalty for the new model, it still acts well for a city car and its minimum turning radius is maintained to the previous model's 4.4m. Not bad.

They still come with the same 660cc 3-cylinder engine as always but thanks to those upgrades inside and out, fuel consumption is now up to 31.0km/L while turbocharged models (Custom only) can get up to 27.4km/L. That maybe more than the Mitsubishi eK Wagon rival but a little less than its chief rival, the Suzuki Wagon R with S-ENE-CHARGE. It seems odd why Daihatsu's not fighting back in the fuel consumption stakes against Suzuki. Well, in the game of the two kei car makers, looks like Daihatsu really admits that they're not going to fight against Suzuki in the fuel economy stakes but they're doing it for quality or so they thought. Hmmm...

2015 Daihatsu Move interior

2015 Daihatsu Move Custom interior

As for quality-wise, the interior isn't half-bad compared to what its Wagon R rival looks like and it's spacious as well. The rear seats can be moved forward or backward and they can be folded to accommodate wide range of luggage space. It even has a secret compartment at the rear boot where you can store things in secrecy. That's another good stuff for this new model.

For the sake of technology, the new Move also has an updated Smart Assist feature where, for the first time, not only it detects forward objects but also objects from behind and triggers a beeping noise that you're approaching to a near-collision situation and brings this car to an automatic halt. Looks like this kei car never get even smarter than this.

The new Move starts from 1,134,000 Yen (around $11,400) for the base model while the Custom model stats at 1,404,000 Yen (around $14,100). Although not quite as affordable as the rivals but this kei car is heavily focused on quality you can trust and with a few more extras, the new Move knows that the future really is now thanks to science. Yes. You get the idea.

2013 Subaru Stella

2013 Subaru Stella

In response to Daihatsu released the facelifted 2013 Move lineup complete with improved e:S technology that propelled them to 29kmpl of fuel economy based on JC08 Mode standards and a new safety system called "Smart Assist" which also comes with an auto-braking feature similar to Volvo's and Subaru's, it seems that here comes an "emergency facelift" for the Subaru Stella twin, therefore, all the technology and the impressive fuel saver gizmo applied on the 2013 Move are bolted in the Subaru Stella compact kei car, which is essentially a rebadged Daihatsu Move when it was launched in May 2011.

Although, the Stella and its Stella Custom stablemate has a very different face than the 2013 Daihatsu Move, it still comes with the newly improved e:S Technology with CVT Thermo Controller that helps get their fuel economy up to 29kmpl and also the SMART ASSIST system that comes with the auto-stop feature that can automatically brake the car in a near-collision scenario.

Sales start at January 2013 across Japan.

Daihatsu Move Fifth-Generation Minor Change

A couple of months ago, Suzuki Motor Corporation just launched their most fuel efficient Wagon R ever complete with new fuel-efficient features that propelled its fuel economy to 28.8kmpl. Some people say that this fuel economy is sure enough to outwit the Daihatsu Move's 27kmpl fuel economy based on JC08 Mode standards. In such response, Suzuki vs. Daihatsu, the battle for fuel economy supremacy, rages on because in response to the new Suzuki Wagon R's antics, Daihatsu waged everything they've got to make something even more fuel efficient than the new Wagon R.

2013 Daihatsu Move

2013 Daihatsu Move Custom
I mean yes, this is the Daihatsu Move. It's still the fifth-generation Daihatsu Move, the kei car that set a benchmark for fuel economy figures and the car that staged a fight against Suzuki in a war of fuel economy. However, this is no ordinary Move because this is the minor change model for the fifth-generation Move. Even though it's a facelifted model, Daihatsu added some new features, something that no other kei car in Japan comes close. What I heard is that this facelifted version of the Move now comes with SMART ASSIST. My thoughts exactly, folks. This is the first time a kei car has applied this; a braking system similar to Volvo's City Safety and Subaru's Eyesight Ver. 2. Meaning that the facelifted version of the Move can now brake by itself in a near-collision scenario. Don't ask how...

Forgive me, ladies and gentlemen, because this is a very serious first look to this new version of the Move and you know me, I'm wasn't quite serious enough getting to know new cars but for this new Move, things are going to be wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey for now.

Where was I? Oh yeah! You know that in the previous fifth-generation Move, it bears the TNP27 slogan because of its 27kmpl fuel economy thanks to its idling stop feature and CVT. For this updated version can you guess what is the fuel consumption of the 2013 Daihatsu Move? Who says 27? Wrong. 28? Nope. 28.8 like the Suzuki Wagon R? Wrong again, you're getting warmer. It's now 29kmpl! The 2013 Daihatsu Move now returns up to 29kmpl based on JC08 Mode standards! How's that possible?

To tell you why, that's because Daihatsu implemented an updated version of e:S Technology first applied on the Mira e:S. I said it "updated" because they've added CVT Thermo Controller for the first time in a kei car. I have no idea how does the new CVT Thermo Controller works in the 2013 Move but what I heard that this new feature maintains the engine temperature. That's it. Don't tell me how it works...again. That's not my responsibility.

However, with their newly improved idling stop system and newly improved e:S Technology implemented so successful, they've even placed it on the turbocharged Move Custom RS version. In a turbocharged version available only on the Move Custom, this gives about 25.2kmpl of fuel economy.

2013 Daihatsu Move interior
2013 Daihatsu Move Custom interior
So far, so good but we're not out in the woods yet. In terms of pricing, the 2013 Move starts at 1,070,000 Japanese Yen for the X model up to 1,591,000 Japanese Yen for the Move Custom X "Limited SA" model with 4WD powertrain on it. Better take note, idiot boys; IT'S AVAILABLE ONLY IN JAPAN. That's it.

TNP30

2012 Subaru Stella Custom

2012 Daihatsu Move Custom
Concerned after being overtaken by the 2012 Mazda Demio 13-SKYACTIV because of its 30.0km/L fuel economy based on Japan's 10-15 Mode Test Cycle, all Daihatsu Move and Subaru Stella models will get an improved improved idling stop system that provides 27.0km/L based on Japan's JC08 Mode Test Cycle, which is 30.0km/L in 10-15 Mode test cycle! In JC08 terms, this is fuel efficient than the Mazda Demio SKYACTIV's! Could we call both of them, TNP30?

Toyota Pixis Space (L575A/L585A)

Over the years, Toyota Motor Corporation never made any single "Light Weight K Car" or "kei car" but their interest was made by Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd., which in fact Toyota owns Daihatsu for that reason. At the past, we see Daihatsu Storia models wearing Toyota badges as the Toyota Duet, the Daihatsu Boon as the Toyota Passo, and the Daihatsu Be-Go (known in emerging countries as the Terios) as the Toyota Rush. And now for the first time, thanks to the joint custody between Toyota and Daihatsu, Toyota finally start selling its first "kei car" under the "PIXIS" sub-brand. Meet the 2012 Toyota Pixis Space, a Daihatsu Move Conte wearing a Toyota badge!

2012 Toyota Pixis Space

2012 Toyota Pixis Space Custom

The 2012 Toyota Pixis Space is the first of the Toyota Pixis sub-brand, where these models are sourced from Daihatsu, and this is the first of its kind. The Toyota Pixis Space comes in two unique styles; standard version for simple tastes and Custom version for fashionable tastes. The Toyota Pixis Space features a boxy look which is too similar from its big brothers such as the Toyota bB and the Toyota Corolla Rumion and hey, looks like this is start of something we would like to call it Toyota's "box car" club but enough of this laughing manner because we are getting serious about Toyota's first kei car sold in Japan in cooperation with Daihatsu. On the standard version, we're looking at something simple such as the squarish headlamps, odd-looking grille, and simple rear lamps while the Pixis Space Custom, on the other hand, features a billet-style grille, odd-looking headlamps, rectangular fog lamps, and some Altezza-style rear lamps to bring out something sporty.

2012 Toyota Pixis Space interior

2012 Toyota Pixis Space Custom interior

What you will see on the interior of the standard Pixis Space are some red lines accentuated on the seats and the dashboard to give it a little something French because these red lines look more reasonable on the light interior but on the Pixis Space Custom, a blend of dark interior and white lines does suit well but if your choice was the RS version, an exclusive MOMO steering wheel is equipped to make it well mannered.

Most Pixis Space variants come with a 658cc Twin Cam DVVT 3-cylinder 12-valve engine that produces 38kW(52PS)/7,200r.p.m. of power output and 60N・m(6.1kgf・m)/4,000r.p.m. of torque output. It provides CVT as the standard transmission available on most variants and it will provide a maximum fuel economy of 25.5km/L (2WD variants) in Japan's 10-15 Mode scale thanks to Daihatsu's Eco Idle feature which provides idling stop to this engine, making it to stop automatically when stopped at the red light. On the Toyota Pixis Space Custom RS, it will have an exclusive turbocharged version of a 658cc Twin Cam DVVT 3-cylinder 12-valve engine, providing 47kW(64PS)/6,000r.p.m. of power output, 103N・m (10.5kgf・m)/3,000r.p.m. of torque output and the fuel economy of 19.0 km/L (2WD variants) based on Japan's 10-15 Mode scale.

The standard Toyota Pixis Space offers seven exterior colors such as Bright Silver Metallic, Black Mica Metallic, Plum Brown Crystal Mica, Pearl White III, Light Rose Mica Metallic, Cotton Ivory, and Mist Blue Mica Metallic while the Toyota Pixis Space Custom offers five exterior colors such as Bright Silver Metallic, Black Mica Metallic, Plum Brown Crystal Mica, Pearl White III and Urban Night Blue Crystal Metallic.

My Comment:
The team up between Toyota and Daihatsu realizing the dream to have Toyota selling its first kei car under the Pixis sub brand and the Toyota Pixis Space, based on the Daihatsu Move Conte, was the first of its kind. Consider it the petite of Toyota's box cars such as the bB and the Corolla Rumion, the Toyota Pixis Space has a lot of learning to do, even though it comes in two different flavors such as the standard version and the Custom version. Adopting the concept of "my space", the new Toyota Pixis Space is best suited to your everyday lifestyles. It wasn't easy being the first kei car sold from Toyota but the Pixis Space has a few tricks on its sleeves.

The Enemy from Without...

2012 Daihatsu Move Custom

2012 Mazda Demio

2012 Daihatsu Mira e:S

So, the Daihatsu Mira e:S has arrived and claimed the title of being the world's most fuel efficient gasoline-fed car today because of the record breaking 30.km/L in Japan's JC08 mode scale, meaning that's 32.0km/L in 10-15 Mode scale, making it higher than the Mazda Demio 13-SKYACTIV's 30.km/L fuel economy and the fifth-generation Daihatsu Move's 27.0km/L.

Didn't realize that the records really put a slam in the fronts of the Daihatsu Move and the Mazda Demio because it the world of fuel efficiency, the higher the fuel economy, the better, but we're not talking about hybrid cars, we're talking about gasoline-fed cars. With today's gas prices, people are looking for fuel-efficient cars but they prefer more about gasoline-fed cars because that's the norm. Thanks to the fuel efficiency of the new Daihatsu Mira e:S, it seems that someone finally found their new partner on the road.

This is how you call it "The Enemy from Without" and no, we're not referring to something from an old video game called Incredible Crisis. We are referring about the arrival of the Daihatsu Mira e:S because of the fuel efficiency that puts the new Daihatsu Move and the Mazda Demio SKYACTIV to shame.

See the difference - 2012 Daihatsu Move Custom RS vs. 2011 Move Custom RS

2011 Daihatsu Move Custom RS

2012 Daihatsu Move Custom RS

This is much more fun to spot the difference but not now. For the 2012 Daihatsu Move Custom RS, the difference can be seen on the alloy wheels. Although, we do kinda miss the good alloy wheel design from the 2011 Move Custom RS because it looks nice. Now the new alloy wheels for the 2012 Daihatsu Move Custom RS kinda reminds me of those from the 2012 Subaru Stella Custom R Limited S but the alloy wheel design looks redundant and misleading.

The good news is that the 2012 Move Custom RS's fuel economy has just increased slightly. Previously the 2011 Move Custom RS 2WD's fuel economy weighs in 22.0km/L but now, the 2012 Move Custom RS 2WD's fuel economy gained an additional 0.5km/L, making it eligible for Japan's "Eco Car Genzei" system.

Latest Daihatsu Move Conte commercial does TNP27!

With the introduction of the 2012 Daihatsu Move Conte and Move Conte Custom minor change since June 6, 2011, Daihatsu released a TV commercial for the new Conte and OMG, this one does TNP27 except the new Conte is not TNP27 (because the fuel economy is 25.5km/L) even if it has Eco Idle (same as the fifth-generation Move).

Coincidence?

Daihatsu Move Conte Commercial

Daihatsu Move Commercial

Whoa! These commercials are far too TNP-ism! Seems that the Move Conte minor change wants to follow the same steps as the fifth-generation Move because of its Eco Idle function.

I heard that Toyota is planning their own version of the Move Conte this autumn and with that, this will be a possibility but I hope they won't wind up just like the Subaru Stella because they didn't offer the turbocharged RS variant.

Daihatsu Move Conte and Move Conte Custom - Phase II

2012 Daihatsu Move Conte

2012 Daihatsu Move Conte Custom

Launched in August 25, 2008, the Daihatsu Move Conte is the squarish member of the Daihatsu family designed and engineered for the smartest drivers in Japan. It was separated into two kinds; the standard Move Conte for the simple living drivers, especially women, and the elegant Move Conte Custom for those who want a touch of class. Get ready for the spectacular twist because for the 2012 Model Year, both the Move Conte and the Move Conte Custom are now on its biggest minor change yet.

On the standard Move Conte, you will be greeted by a new front design that is somewhat cute to look at it. On the Move Conte Custom, elegance has progressed because of the new front design inspired from the second-generation Daihatsu Tanto Custom but on the back, the "CUSTOM" paneling was shelved. No matter which of these Conte you'll choose, you will still be greeted with the upgraded KF engine that produces 52PS/7,200rpm of power, 6.1kg-m/4,000rpm of torque, and 23.0km/L of fuel economy.

There is a major major news happened to the 2012 Move Conte X and the 2012 Move Conte Custom G because the Idle Stop and Go feature known as "Eco Idle", first applied on the fifth generation Daihatsu Move and Move Custom since December 2010, is now applied, providing an optimized fuel economy of 25.5km/L. Needless to say, the new-for-2012 Move Conte has the right to be applied TNP25.5 because of its Eco Idle feature that brings the 660cc KF to a complete shutoff when stopped at the red light. This is the second Daihatsu model to be equipped with the idling stop function. Don't forget that when you're out there.

My Comment:

The Move Conte and Move Conte Custom's minor change received the much awaited Eco Idle function that provides the exceptional fuel economy of 25.5km/L. Maybe this new Move Conte tries to follow the footsteps of the TNP27 Move but we'll see if the new 2012 Move Conte will achieve its lifelong dream of becoming the most fuel efficient kei car from Daihatsu. Good luck and enjoy the new idling stop function, Move Conte.

Ninety-Nine's Subaru Stella Advert is their next best thing since Junichi Okada and Norikazu Endo

I always remember the good old TNP27 Japanese commercial for the fifth-generation Daihatsu Move starring famous actor Norikazu Endo and V6 member Junichi Okada. This commercial answers the most complicating question about the new Daihatsu Move, "what is TNP27?"

That is the toughest question only you can answer if you own one.

Now, with the arrival of the new Subaru Stella, which is based from the Daihatsu TNP27 Move, comedian duo Ninety-Nine does TNP27, knowing how does the new Stella's Idle Stop and Go function work.

Yes indeed that Ninety-Nine's Subaru Stella commercial is their next best thing for Norikazu Endo and V6's Junichi Okada's Daihatsu TNP27 Move commercial. Try them and you'll decide.

Why the new 2012 Subaru Stella Custom doesn't come with the RS variant

2012 Subaru Stella Custom

Aw, too bad for those Scooby fans waiting for it. When the 2012 Subaru Stella (based on the 5th generation Daihatsu Move that was launched since December 2010) was launched yesterday, in May 24, 2011, they were offered in both the normal Stella for simple customers and the Stella Custom for hardcore customers.

However, there is a sudden twist on the 2012 Subaru Stella Custom. As I observed, Fuji Heavy Industries didn't offer the turbocharged RS variant, which is offered from the fifth-generation Daihatsu Move Custom.
2011 Daihatsu Move Custom

Why did they made such an unfair decision. This is just like when Nissan didn't offer the "Pure Drive" idling stop variant for their recently launched 3rd generation Nissan Moco, which its original stablemate, the third generation Suzuki MR Wagon has the idling stop function.

Is this some kind of a "we're only giving them what they want" scenario? Come on Fuji Heavy Industries, you sourced the new Stella via Daihatsu, why you didn't ask them for a turbocharged Stella Custom RS variant? Are you giving them what they want?

You know what, never mind. I might have to reconsider my thoughts before buying the latest TNP27 Stella and Stella Custom.

What do you think? Feel free to share your thoughts.

Second Generation Subaru Stella (LA100F/LA110F)

2012 Subaru Stella and
2012 Subaru Stella Custom

The Subaru Stella is back and today, the latest Subaru Stella is now based on the Daihatsu TNP27 Move, as part of making the Subaru Kei Car line-up all based from Daihatsu models under the agreement between Toyota Group and Fuji Heavy Industries for the "Toyobaru FT-86" project, so on, so forth.

The normal Subaru Stella was actually based on the Daihatsu Move (LA100S) and only the side lights have changed from the color orange to white. The new Stella Custom, on the other hand, is highly based on the latest Daihatsu Move Custom but the front received some minor changes to make it more like a Subaru than a Daihatsu, even when both the new Stella and the new Stella Custom were built from Daihatsu!

Unlike the Move Custom, which offers a turbo variant, the Stella Custom does not have a turbo engine, which makes it a huge mistake why the new Stella Custom did not offer such a crazy engine. Both the new Stella and the new Stella Custom are equipped with Daihatsu's KF 3-cylinder 660cc DOHC DVVT engine that produces a power output of 52PS/7200rpm, torque output of 6.1kg・m/4000rpm, and it comes with the CVT for optimized fuel economy. One special surprise for the both of them is the new Idle Stop and Go function that automatically shuts off the engine when stationary. With the Idle Stop and Go equipped, the new Stella series' fuel efficiency are guaranteed to be TNP27, that is 27km/L. No wonder they keep the promise to be Subaru's very own TNP27.

The new Stella comes in six colors such as Pearl White III, Bright Silver Metallic, Black Mica Metallic, Champagne Gold Metallic II, Light Rose Mica Metallic, and Fine Blue Mica Metallic. The new Stella Custom, on the other hand, offers five colors such as Pearl White III, Bright Silver Metallic, Black Mica Metallic, Sparkling Orange Crystal Metallic, and Fine Blue Mica Metallic.

My Comment:
Sourced from Daihatsu, the new Subaru Stella and new Stella Custom are now labeled to be TNP27 because both of them will receive the new Idling Stop function that automatically shuts off the engine when stationary. The idling stop function is Subaru's first but don't even think about it because Daihatsu made this technology on the fifth-generation Daihatsu Move. It's the six-star cluster meets TNP27 technology because this is the fifth-generation Daihatsu Move photoshopped as the new Subaru Stella. Find out how good really is when you are taking a test drive with the new TNP27 Stella! If you want to experience it first hand, why not arrange a test drive at your nearest Subaru dealers across Japan?
