Lexus GX550 (VJA252W)

The Lexus GX, the smaller sibling of the LX, has finally arrived on Japanese roads. Those who find the Toyota Land Cruiser 250 lacking in power should consider this powerful and luxurious alternative.

2025 Lexus GX

Priced at 11,950,000 Japanese Yen (roughly $120,000) plus additional costs, the Lexus GX is the more premium alternative to the Toyota Land Cruiser 250 where brute force and first-class comfort matter for this ultra-luxury off-roader capable of mocking Little Miss Sandping in style and comfort.

2025 Lexus GX

Starting with the exterior, the Lexus GX has a more rugged appearance compared to the Toyota Land Cruiser 250 on which it is based. It also boasts a sharp aesthetic. The same story goes for the offroad-oriented OVERTRAIL+ which comes with the exclusive Moon Desert exterior color, under guard, black arches, bridge-type roof rails, black door panels, and rear center protection. Lexus claims that the GX's design harks back to Toyota's offroad GOAT, the Land Cruiser 70 series. A homage done right, they said.

2025 Lexus GX
2025 Lexus GX interior

The interior of the Lexus GX is a huge contrast to the Land Cruiser 250 donor car because it's meant to be positioned at the Business Class rather than the Economy Class. On the driver's side, the GX features an optional HUD, a standard 12-inch Multimedia Touchscreen Display with Lexus Interface technology, a digital 12.3-inch multi-information display, and others. On the passenger side, the GX seats up to seven people (five for the OVERTRAIL+ variant), and the passenger seats can be folded down for spacing needs. You can fit up to four golf bags with this one.

For sound experience, the GX is offered with the available 21-speaker Mark Levinson Surround Sound for stage-level sound quality on the move.

2025 Lexus GX

The GX runs on its GA-F platform just like its big brother, the LX. With notable features such as the rigid rear suspension with extended rear wheel articulation, and electric power steering, it behaves like every luxury off-roader should. In the OVERTRAIL+ variant, it's well-armed with all-terrain tires and Lexus-first E-KDSS. The E-KDSS or Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System can lock or release the front and rear anti-roll bars independently for better offroading. It even comes with Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control, and the Multi-Terrain Monitor.

Under the hood, The GX is armed with the same V35A-FTS V6 3.4L Twin Turbo engine as the LX but it's detuned to produce 353PS of power and 650Nm of torque. Mated to the Direct Shift 10AT, fuel economy is around 8.1km/L based on WLTC Mode standards, the same as the LX.

The all-new GX comes equipped with the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, which includes several advanced features: the Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian Detection, All-speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA with SA), Road Sign Assist (RSA), and Proactive Driving Assist (PDA).

Those who have already owned the Toyota Land Cruiser 250 may feel regret because the Lexus GX offers many features that its Toyota counterpart lacks. Those who haven't owned one yet might feel envious, wishing they could experience the new GX someday.

From mocking Sandping in the daytime to a night trip to the City of Dreams at nightfall, the Lexus GX has it all. Comfort, technology, and an ounce of brute force. Nobody does it better than this.

How to dress as Hasunosora Girls' High School Idol Club members (105th Revised Edition)

The Hasunosora Girls' High School Idol Club in "Link! Like! Love Live!" marks a significant moment in Love Live! history, as it is the first time that members can be replaced.

Following the conclusion of the 104th Final Term Fes x Live virtual event, which bid farewell to beloved senpais Kozue Otomune, Megumi Fujishima, and Tsuzuri Yugiri, many fans have been wondering who will take their place.

Recently, it was announced that Edel Note, the rival duo that the Hasunosora girls defeated for the Love Live title, will be joining the club effective in the newest chapter of the Hasunosora story.

As cosplay season is in full swing, it's time to teach you how to be one of your favorite Hasunosora Girls' High School Idol Club members.

Link! Like! Love Live!
Link! Like! Love Live!

As Kaho Hinoshita - The Hasunosora Girls' High School Idol Club would not exist without its founding member, Kaho Hinoshita. Kaho is a third-year high school student known for her bright personality and dazzling smile. Now that she has stepped into her role as a leader, she is determined to build upon the foundation laid by her seniors and take the club to new heights, fully aware that they must continue to strive for excellence. As any Love Live cosplayer would tell you, a normal-sized orange wig is all you need and then tinker it to match Kaho's hairstyle. With Kaho's your gal, feel free to plan on the costumes she wore during her time.

As Sayaka Murano - Now in her Senior Year, Sayaka Murano vows to keep the promises she made from Tsuzuri Yugiri, one of the now-former members who left the group after graduation. For the newest chapter of the Hasunosora story, Sayaka now dons a new hairstyle. With that, prepare a long dark blue wig and keep it as is as long as the left part of her hair is present at the front. At the back, Sayaka dons a new red-and-blue dual ribbon with a star in the middle. It takes guts to replicate Sayaka's new ribbon design but with that settled, the outfits are up to you.

As Rurino Osawa - Rurino Osawa is known for being an energizer. Get it? Energizer? If you're looking to cosplay as Rurino, be mindful of the hairdo. It may be a long blond hairdo with a sky-blue gradient on it, but replicating Rurino's hairstyle is no walk in the park. But if you can manage to pull it off, you'll be the hit of any convention!

As Ginko Momose - Ginko Momose dreams of becoming a school idol who inherits her family’s tradition. If you’re looking to cosplay as Ginko, you will need a short, dark, blackish hairdo and a traditional Japanese ornament to put in it. Ginko’s hairdo is one of the easier ones to replicate, but the traditional Japanese ornament might take some searching to find.

As Kosuzu Kachimachi - Kosuzu Kachimachi is the youngest child of a fishing family from Tsuruga. She's a hard worker who doesn't get discouraged even when she fails, but she sometimes makes remarks that look down on herself. Kosuzu's hairstyle is a long golden-brown one with braids at the front. Replicating Kosuzu's hairstyle won't be an easy job. but it might be fun to try. If you're feeling brave, I say go for it! If anyone can do it, it's you!

As Hime Anyoji - Hime Anyoji is a gamer well-known for winning student tournaments. Getting a long pink hair with the bottom part painted in blond color and then ponytailed is a simple task, right? Well, no. There are a couple of details that can be easy to miss, so make sure you take your time and get it right. It’ll be worth it in the end! Grab some rubber bands because it's going to be a long night replicating Hime Anyoji's ponytail.

As Izumi Katsuragi - Formerly a member of Edel Note, a rival school idol unit representing Mizukawa Girls' High School, Izumi transferred to Hasunosora as a 2nd Year student. Izumi is a school idol with great potential who can handle most things with ease. Being Izumi takes stacks of two black wigs to your head; the ponytailed long one at the bottom and the short one at the top. Don't forget the two triangle hairpins to your right as well. It's tricky work but if you match Izumi's hairstyle, feel free to decide on the costumes.

As Ceras Yanagida Lilienfeld - Ceras, who hails from Nagano, first met Kaho while they were both in the hospital. Thanks to Kaho's efforts, Ceras was able to join her senpai, Izumi, in representing Edel Note, a school idol unit from the now-defunct Mizukawa Girls' High School. After the Hasunosora girls won the Love Live tournament and Mizukawa Girls' High School closed, Ceras and Izumi began transferring to Hasunosora to return the favor. Ceras has a long sand-colored hairdo with two pink ribbons behind her ears. If you can match her looks, feel free to decide on the outfits.

...and there you have it. How to dress as Hasunosora Girls' High School Idol Club members, the 105th Revised Edition. The world's looking forward to some impressive Hasunosora Girls High School Idol Club cosplays as it enters the most challenging story ever.

As the girls are facing their most challenging feat, nothing will ever be the same for Kaho and her friends.

FIGHTING!

Itsudemo, Itsumademo

The 104th Final Term Fes x LIVE in Link! Like! Love Live! marked the final performance of Kozue Otomune, Megumi Fujishima, and Tsuzuri Yugiri as part of the group. After winning in Love Live against the Edel Note duo, it is time to say goodbye to Hasunosora's beloved senpais. This latest single serves as a parting gift from the trio.

Itsudemo, Itsumademo
Itsudemo, Itsumademo

The Hasunosora Girls High School Idol Club's sixth single is titled "Itsudemo, Itsumademo". This song made its world premiere at the 104th Final Term Fes x LIVE virtual event as seen in the "Link! Like! Love Live!" app and it's their way to bid farewell to the group's beloved senpais Kozue Otomune, Megumi Fujishima, and Tsuzuri Yugiri.

Not only the titular song is featured but it also has an additional song titled "いったん".

As Kozue, Megumi, and Tsuzuri served their purpose, what comes next for Kaho Hinoshita and the rest of the club as the series approaches the "105th Term"?

Toyota Crown Estate (H38W/H39W)

The introduction of the all-new Toyota Crown Estate completes the quartet of Crown models, which includes the Crown Crossover, the Crown sedan, the Crown Sport, and this one. Now, let's get to know the last addition to this lineup.

2025 Toyota Crown Estate
2025 Toyota Crown Estate

The all-new Toyota Crown Estate starts at 6,350,000 Japanese Yen plus additional costs. The final entry of the Crown quartet of models is obviously the most spacious even though it isn't really an Estate, it's a posh crossover that's about as big as the Harrier.

2025 Toyota Crown Estate
2025 Toyota Crown Estate

Let's start with the exterior styling. The Crown Estate is a luxury crossover comparable in size to the current-generation Harrier. It features the latest Crown logo, similar to the rest of the lineup, but it showcases the signature Toyota design that has been inspired by Ferrari. From the rear, the vehicle's appearance could easily be mistaken for an RAV4, a Harrier, or a Corolla Cross. As they say, it's all part of the family.

Similar to the entire quartet, the Crown Estate's interior embraces a minimalist approach. The driver's side features advanced technologies such as T-Connect, smartphone connectivity, voice control, a heated steering wheel, and a digital rearview mirror, among others.

The Estate, being the most spacious option among the Crown quartet, offers 570 liters of luggage space with the rear seats in use and 1,470 liters when they are folded down. It also features a brand-new luggage space extension board mechanism, which allows for a completely flat space of two meters in length when the rear seats are retracted—a first for Toyota vehicles.

2025 Toyota Crown Estate
2025 Toyota Crown Estate

The Crown Estate is available with two electrified drivetrains. The hybrid Z variant features a 2.5L A25A-FXS Dynamic Force petrol engine paired with two electric motors, producing a total power output of 243 PS. It comes equipped with a nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery and an e-CVT gearbox, promising a fuel economy of 20.3 km/L based on WLTC Mode standards.

On the other hand, the plug-in hybrid RS variant utilizes the same 2.5L A25A-FXS petrol hybrid engine as the standard hybrid. However, it is enhanced with powerful electric motor generators, a new lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery mounted under the floor, and an improved heat pump HVAC system, delivering a total power output of 306 PS. This variant also features a CVT gearbox and achieves a combined fuel economy of 20 km/L according to WLTC Mode standards, along with an electric-only driving range of 89 km. That's more efficient than what you get from one of its main rivals, the Mazda CX-60 with e-SKYACTIV PHEV.

Similar to the other Crown SUVs in the lineup, the Crown Estate is built on the TNGA-K platform. Although it is only available with four-wheel drive, its driving experience can be somewhat comparable to that of the Audi Q5. This platform makes the ride less sporty, but it does provide a relaxed driving feel, reminiscent of a leisurely Sunday afternoon, thanks to its front MacPherson struts and rear multilink suspension.

With an emphasis on safety as a key priority, the Crown Estate comes equipped with advanced safety features, including the latest Toyota Safety Sense. This system includes up to 12 advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) features. Additionally, it offers the innovative Toyota Teammate advanced driving system, which includes Radar Cruise Control and Lane Tracing Assist. These technologies enable the crossover to perform semi-autonomous driving, allowing it to navigate busy roads like the Shutokou with ease.

Although the Crown Estate is a treason to the Crown heritage, like the Crossover and Sport variants, it is all about space, luxury, and efficiency in the name of common sense. With the Crown lineup of models officially complete, it's hard to decide which variant is the wisest, but if you're interested in space, the Estate is the best bet. It's misleading by name, but it's a serious, posh crossover fit for all walks of life.

Available Colors: Precious White Pearl, Massive Grey, Black, Emotional Red III, Precious Bronze, Black x Precious White Pearl, Precious Metal x Massive Grey, Black x Massive Grey, Black x Emotional Red III, and Black x Precious Bronze.

My FM Log: Heroes

The Toyota GR Yaris and the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N are prize cars in Forza Motorsport's Daily Racers update. Having got my hands on these two everyday heroes on the road and track, let's get to know them two.

I acquired the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N by completing the Open Class Tour update or finishing 10 races in the Open Class Featured Multiplayer until the March 12, 2025 deadline.

The IONIQ 5 N is the high-performance variant of the IONIQ 5 crossover and signifies that Hyundai N is embracing electrification.

Equipped with an 84 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and two electric motors that power both the front and rear wheels, the IONIQ 5 N delivers a default output of 609 PS and 740 Nm of torque. When the N Grin Boost feature is activated for ten seconds, the power increases to 650 PS. Additionally, with N Launch Control engaged, it can achieve a 0-100 km/h time of just 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 260 km/h.

Hyundai has truly excelled with the IONIQ 5 N, which has won the 2024 World Performance Car award as well as Top Gear's 2023 Car of the Year. This high-performance electric crossover not only boasts an impressive design but also the power and speed to match. Its recent achievement of setting a new record at Pikes Peak with a time of 9 minutes and 30.852 seconds in the Modified and Production SUV/Crossover classes further underscores its performance capabilities.

Moving to the Toyota GR Yaris that I acquired by completing the Daily Racers Tour or finishing 10 races in the Daily Racers featured multiplayer until the March 26, 2025 deadline.

Known as the second JDM sports car of the Reiwa era, the GR Yaris served as the template for Toyota's next rally car. Take the fourth-generation Yaris, strip the two extra doors off, make it wider, jam it with the G16E-GTS 1.6L 3-cylinder intercooler turbo engine, and lodge it with the GR-FOUR four-wheel-drive system. The result is a road-legal rally car akin to the legendary Toyota Celica GT-FOUR.

In addition to the 1.6L turbocharged variant, there is a cheaper and much slower RS variant with the 1.5L M15A-FKS engine mated to a CVT.

Having acquired these two high-performance Asian superheroes, let's drive these two around Brands Hatch to prove just how "super" these everyday superheroes are.

They both know how to use their superpowers effectively. As the saying goes, "with great power comes great responsibility." That's why I admire them both.

Anyway, enjoy your new rides.

How to dress as the Ave Mujica members

It's the BanG Dream! franchise's 10th anniversary today and let's celebrate with some quick instructions on how to be one of the members of Ave Mujica, the girls' band group starring in the recent BanG Dream! Ave Mujica TV series.

BanG Dream! Ave Mujica
BanG Dream! Ave Mujica

The band Ave Mujica was formed at the end of the "BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!!" TV anime and this mysterious girl band have one goal: to prove "MyGO!!!!!" wrong.

As the series nears its climax and with anime convention season drawing near, you better start planning on how to be one of your favorite Ave Mujica members.

As Doloris - Uika Misumi is a first-year high school student at Hanasakigawa Girls' High School and a part of the idol unit "Sumimi". She is in charge of lyrics for Ave Mujica as Doloris, meaning "pain". Just a semi-blond light blond hair would do the trick as long as it matches Doloris' style.

As Mortis - Mutsumi Wakaba is a first-year student at Tsukinomori Girls High. She is in the same class as MyGO!!!!!'s Soyo Nagasaki but she's not good at making expressions and communicating. Her father is a popular comedian and her mother is a famous actress. She is a guitarist named Mortis, meaning "death". To become Mortis, it's best to find a long greenish+whitish wig and match Mortis' hairstyle.

As Timoris - Umiri Yahata is a first-year high school student at Hanasakigawa Girls' High School. Her bass skills are on par with those of a professional, and she supports 30 bands at the same time. As Timoris, meaning "fear", she does all the behind-the-scenes work, such as coordinating the schedules of the band members. A simple semi-long black hair should do the trick as long as it matches Timoris' style.

As Amoris - Nyamu Yutenji is a content creator who specializes in beauty-related videos such as makeup videos but she is trying different genres to broaden her horizons. She is the drummer of Ave Mujica named Amoris, meaning "love". Amoris dons a short dark lavender hairdo so it shouldn't be a problem for you to find one. Makeup is a necessity because Amoris does this kind of gig.

As Oblivionis - Sakiko Togawa is a first-year high school student at Haneoka Girls' High School and her family runs a conglomerate. She is the mastermind of Ave Mujica with the determination to take responsibility for the lives of all its members. She devotes herself to protecting the worldview of Ave Mujica. Oblivionis' hair is a long sky-blue one with twin tails on it. If you have that kind of wig, make sure it matches Oblivionis's hairstyle.

Matching the hairstyles of every Ave Mujica member is challenging, but you'll eventually master it. Once the hairstyles are decided, feel free to decide on their outfits. Don't be shy. You deserve to cosplay as one of your favorite Ave Mujica girls. Whether by yourself or with friends, it's your choice.

The die is cast. Release the dark side from within and be one with Ave Mujica.

The album features a total of 12 songs, including new tracks such as "雨上がり、キミと" ("After the Rain, You"), "Hanasaku Mirai ni" ("To a Blooming Future"), and "DOKI DOKI SCARY," all of which enhance the story of the smartphone game "BanG Dream! Girls Band Party!" Additionally, it includes the energetic rock song "TARINAI," which gained popularity during live performances, and "Introduction," written by Ayase. This album showcases the broad range of musicality that makes Poppin'Party (Popipa) so appealing.

Among these tracks, the standout song is "Tomorrow's Door," created to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Popipa's formation. This heart-throbbing piece is filled with sparkling moments and exciting references, including a motif from their first song, "Yes! BanG_Dream!"

My FH5 Log: Legacy Runs Deep

As we both say goodbye to the Forza series and the Subaru Legacy this year, it's time for one last drive with the first-generation Subaru Legacy sedan and see how much it can learn from the last surviving Subaru sedan, the Subaru WRX S4 VBH.

WRX

Subaru has an impressive resume of 4WD saloons that boldly go where no sedan has gone before, such as the Leone, Legacy, Impreza, and WRX. Sadly, the signs of the times favored the crossover market and as the once-dominant sedan race is diminishing rapidly to the point of extinction, Subaru's not spared from it, leaving the VB-spec Subaru WRX S4 the last remaining sedan in the range.

To review, the second-generation Subaru WRX S4 was unveiled in 2021, marking the first use of the Subaru Global Platform in its two-decade history. This new platform enhances safety, improves handling dynamics, and reduces noise, vibration, and harshness. The same platform is also used in the second-generation Levorg, the estate version of the WRX.

The updated model features a flat-four boxer turbo engine that has increased in size from the previous model's 2.0L to 2.4L. It produces 275 PS and 375 Nm of torque. This engine is paired exclusively with the newly developed Subaru Performance Transmission, a sport-tuned continuously variable transmission (CVT) that offers an 8-speed manual mode. It provides 30% faster upshifts and 50% faster downshifts compared to the previous WRX S4's Sport Lineartronic CVT. The one featured in Forza Horizon 5 is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, which is offered only in overseas markets.

A race-spec WRX S4 achieved a significant milestone by winning the SP4T class at the 2024 ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring, marking the first victory for this VB model in its second appearance at the Nürburgring.

The first-generation Subaru Legacy, meanwhile, achieved significant success in rallying, including Patrik Njiru's victory in the Group N class at the 1990 Safari Rally. In 1993, it secured a one-two finish at the first leg of the Acropolis Rally, and it won the eighth round of Rally New Zealand with the late Colin McRae at the wheel.

The first generation Subaru Legacy was launched in Japan in February 1989 and was offered in several variants, including the 220 PS (162 kW) DOHC 2.0-liter turbocharged "RS" model, which was available exclusively with a 5-speed manual transmission.

So, how much does Subaru's current Nurburgring hero learn from the grand old dad of JDM rally legends? Using the top of the caldera as our arena, the two Subaru sedans from distant generations will dish each other with a one-lap time attack. These cars aren't afraid to get dirty. Would you? Anyway, let's roll the tape.

And now, the results...

Legacy (BC) - 1m06.333s

WRX (VB) - 58.876s

I guess Subaru's rallying heritage still remained even in this mediocre S4. Drivers like Travis Pastrana and Lia Block gave the WRX S4 a fighting chance in the ARA while others used the WRX S4 for track purposes from the Nurburgring to Super Taikyu. I can't blame them.

The Subaru Legacy's story is finished and this first-generation Legacy is a clear reminder of progression not just for the Legacy nameplate but also for Subaru. It helped Subaru cement its status in the world of rallying and became the cornerstone of grand touring pleasure. Some of the attributes have been carried over to today's WRX, although it's not fully developed to do things its ancestors have done. Too soon, junior. You have a lot to learn from the best.

EPILOGUE

The Subaru WRX S4 VB may have been an average 4WD saloon that ended up becoming the last remaining Subie saloon, but because this is Forza Horizon 5, I have interesting opportunities for the WRX S4 to discover.

The car is perhaps not as famous as something like the Aston Martin Vantage, but the WRX S4 can still do its job well in this game, and I'm interested to see how far I can take it. The WRX S4's ability to go off-road makes me curious about how it will fare in the mountains, which should be a fun place to drive. Perhaps this car may be interested in this, too?

Sigh. I gave the S4 a choice, and it went for the other. It wants to be that Liella girl, Kinako Sakurakoji. Fine, have it your way. I shall now call you Kinako.

But hey, on the plus side, I’ve managed to make some revisions underneath so that now this car behaves as if the Subaru Performance Transmission is set to its 8-speed manual mode. I even gave it the looks to imitate the STi S210 in my mind, a special version of the WRX S4 that’s a road-going version of the race car that won the Nurburgring 24-hour race in its class. It has a 30-PS power hike, but it’s only mated with the Subaru Performance Transmission.

With the looks of the STi S210 and the mentality of Kinako Sakurakoji, my WRX S4 is battling against two racers in their juiced-up cars in an EventLab scenario in an industrial district. Typical street racing vibes but is the WRX S4 up for this challenge? Let's find out.

Although battered and bent after that "grand slam", it managed to survive and win this EventLab situation. Well done, Kinako-chan. You know what they say "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog". Man, I'm going to miss playing those cool EventLab scenarios.

The Subaru WRX S4 may be the last remaining Subaru sedan on sale today but rest assured that its legacy of creating all-weather, all-capable, 4WD saloons will never be forgotten.

From the WRC to the Nürburgring, on or off the road, tarmac, gravel, or snow, this represents world-class quality done right. This is... SUBARU 4WD.

A quick history of the Subaru Legacy

After over three and a half decades on the road, Subaru will bid goodbye to the Legacy at the end of March 2025. Although it's a painful thing to do, the Legacy has served its purpose after seven generations not just in Japan but across the globe.

As the world braces for the end of the Subaru Legacy, it's time for a quick history with Subaru's grand touring sensation from the BC/BF first-generation model to the final-generation BT5.

First Generation (1989-1993) - The first generation of the Subaru Legacy was launched in Japan in February 1989 and was offered in several variants. These included the 220 PS (162 kW) DOHC 2.0-liter turbocharged "RS" model, which was available exclusively with a 5-speed manual transmission. Additionally, there were the "VZ" sedan and wagon, as well as the "TZ" sedan and wagon, both equipped with a 150 PS (110 kW) DOHC 2.0-liter engine. A smaller 102 PS (75 kW) SOHC 1.8-liter engine powered the "Vi" sedan and wagon, which were front-wheel drive only, along with the "Ti" sedan and wagon, the "Mi," and the entry-level "Ei" sedans and wagons.

In terms of motorsport involvement, the Subaru Legacy achieved significant success, including Patrik Njiru's victory in the Group N class at the 1990 Safari Rally. In 1993, it secured a one-two finish at the first leg of the Acropolis Rally, and it won the eighth round of Rally New Zealand with the late Colin McRae at the wheel.

Second Generation (1993-1998) - The second-generation Subaru Legacy featured a rounder shape compared to its predecessor, courtesy of styling by Oliver Boulay. It was offered with the choice of the Touring Wagon, the 4-door Touring Sports, and the SUV-oriented Grand Wagon. The 1996 facelift features a much cleaner design and sports a powerful new variant with the EJ20R turbo engine producing 280PS of power. The Grand Wagon was renamed Lancaster in the 1997 model.

Third Generation (1998-2003) - Launched in 1998, the third-generation Legacy features a much squarish design compared to the previous model while donning similar taillights from its predecessor. It's available in a choice of a Touring Wagon, the Lancaster, and the B4 sedan. In addition to the selection of a 2.0L or 2.5L boxer petrol engine, the Lancaster is the first Japanese car to be powered by a 3.0L boxer-six engine. This engine became so popular, that it was even added to the Touring Wagon and the B4 after the 2001 minor change.

Fourth Generation (2003-2009) - The fourth-generation Legacy sports a sharper exterior design in contrast to its predecessors. It is available in a choice of a Touring Wagon or B4, powered by a choice of a 2.0L boxer-4 (with available turbo) and a 3.0L boxer-6 engine. The Lancaster model was replaced by the Outback, marking the marque's Japan debut having been applied to foreign-model predecessors since the second and third generations. The 2005 facelift marked the debut of Subaru's SI-DRIVE while later updates feature the first-generation Subaru Eyesight system with front cameras detecting moving objects.

Fifth Generation (2009-2014) - The fifth-generation Legacy was launched in 2009 to commemorate the Legacy range's 20th anniversary. With styling inspired by the concept car from the 2009 NAIAS, the fifth-generation Legacy is offered with the choice of the Touring Wagon, the B4, and the Outback. All models are fitted with Subaru's Lineartronic CVT for better fuel economy while the 2.5GT models are mated to either a 5-speed AT or a 6-speed MT. The Outback still uses the EZ36 3.6L boxer-six engine.

The 2013 Subaru Legacy's minor model change comes with the new FA20 Direct Injection Turbo (DIT) engine. Sadly, the 6-speed manual is gone for this model year. The Touring Wagon (BR9), Legacy B4 (BM9), and Outback have engine choices of the FA20 DIT, the old EJ25, or a new FB25. The Outback also has the option of the old EZ36 engine. Depending on the model, there are a couple of transmission options. Touring Wagon, Outback, and B4 models equipped with the FB25 are mated with the second-generation Lineartronic CVT that comes with a 6-speed manual mode. Outback models with the EZ36, and models with the old EJ25, have a 5-speed automatic transmission. Touring Wagon and B4 models equipped with the new FA20 DIT engine have a new Lineartronic CVT with a 6-speed manual mode.

Sixth Generation (2014-2021) - 2014 marked the Legacy's 25th anniversary and the arrival of the sixth generation. Only the B4 sedan and the Outback were available for purchase. The Touring Wagon was no longer available, as it had been replaced by the Levorg. The only engine choice was the updated version of the FB25 Boxer, which came with Lineartronic CVT. Both models featured EyeSight ver. 3, which had adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and collision warning/prevention.

Seventh Generation (2021-2025) - The seventh and final generation of the Subaru Legacy is the Outback. With styling that is similar to its predecessor, it's no wonder that some enthusiasts find this new model to be the successor to their beloved legacy, or at least an appropriate follow-up to its six previous generations. In keeping with the model's tradition, this final generation offers many tech-savvy features on the interior, as well as under the hood. The previous 2.5L boxer-four petrol engine has been replaced with a CB18 1.8L DOHC DIT engine. This setup features a LINEARTRONIC CVT with an 8-speed manual mode, achieving modest fuel economy for the power it generates. This engine also boosts both the horsepower and torque in comparison to the Legacy's sixth-generation model. Perhaps the Outback's best feature is that it was redesigned and rebuilt using the Subaru Global Platform, improving the car's handling and making it stiffer.

Subaru announced that it will end production of the Legacy at the end of March 2025. To commemorate this, Subaru has unveiled a send-off limited edition model called the Subaru Legacy Outback Black Selection. This special model commemorates not only the 30th anniversary of the Subaru Outback but also the end of the Subaru Legacy. It features a blackened front grille, badges, 18-inch wheels, roof rails, and bumpers.

For seven generations, the Subaru Legacy has been the epitome of grand touring for all walks of life. Whether it's on tarmac, gravel, or snow, the Legacy is every journeyman's responsible partner that allows them to chart through uncharted paths. Now that the Legacy's story is finished, its memories will live on forever. As they said, legacy runs deep.

Thanks, Legacy.

Toyota GR Corolla (2025MY Minor Change)

For the 2025 model year, Toyota's super hot hatchback, the GR Corolla, has received a much-needed change that promises to make observers burn with jealousy. This update promises to be better than before.

2025 Toyota GR Corolla
2025 Toyota GR Corolla

Now starting at 5,680,000 Japanese Yen plus additional costs, the Toyota GR Corolla minor change has more oomph than the first time the world encountered Toyota's super-hot hatchback hero, which became the spectacular antithesis of the Corolla lineage.

2025 Toyota GR Corolla
2025 Toyota GR Corolla interior

The exterior design resembles the pre-facelift model; however, it now includes the new front bumper design introduced in last year's facelifted GR Yaris. This updated design replaces the fog lamps with larger corner air inlets to improve cooling capacity. The interior remains similar to the previous model, but it now features a darker finish on the trim and switches for a sportier appearance.

Customers can choose the SPORT Package, which includes black and red seat upholstery with red perforations, as well as synthetic leather featuring black and red stitching.

2025 Toyota GR Corolla
2025 Toyota GR Corolla

The updated GR Corolla still has the G16E-GTS 1.6L 3-cylinder turbocharged engine, which produces 304PS of power but 30Nm more torque than before, producing 400Nm of torque. In addition to the updated 6-speed manual gearbox, the GR Corolla can now be equipped with the available 8-speed Gazoo Racing Direct Automatic Transmission. No matter which gearbox you're on, the GR Corolla packs a power-to-weight ratio of 6.7kg/kw.

Asked about the fuel economy, the manual variant has 12.4km/L while the new automatic variant has 10.4km/L based on WLTC mode standards.

The team at Toyota Gazoo Racing dedicated valuable manpower to recalibrating the GR Corolla, drawing on their experience from the Super Taikyu Series. As a result, the updated GR Corolla features improved dynamics, including increased rigidity through additional braces and bolts. This enhances vehicle stability during acceleration and control while turning, as well as improves steering responsiveness. Additionally, the sport-tuned suspension and brakes contribute to a more exhilarating driving experience.

The GR Corolla is equipped with the signature GR-FOUR Active Torque Split 4WD System, featuring a Torsen Limited Slip Differential (LSD) for improved cornering and stability on various surfaces, including tarmac, gravel, and snow. When the car is set to Track Mode, its dynamics become more engaging, resembling those of the GR86 or GR Supra.

Additionally, the Drive Mode Select feature allows you to choose a driving mode that suits your style. One notable option is the secret EXPERT MODE, which can be activated by selecting either SPORT or CUSTOM mode and briefly pressing the VSC OFF button. EXPERT MODE is specifically recommended for track use, so use it wisely.

As a general rule, the GR Corolla is limited to a top speed of 180 kph on normal roads. However, when you arrive at the circuit, you can activate Circuit Mode, which disables the speed limiter and provides special instrument displays, including engine RPM and LED indicators.

With a slightly new look, improved torque, an upgraded 8-speed automatic transmission option, and enhanced dynamics, the minor changes to the Toyota GR Corolla make it even better than before. These improvements are sure to appeal to performance enthusiasts who have a desire for speed. This is the GR Corolla that the world wants, so don’t look back.

My GT7 Log: Crossover The World

The crossover SUV market is as ever-growing as superhero movies in theaters, and Toyota continues to buck the trend with the compact SUV C-HR. In Gran Turismo 7, I uncovered this mega-popular but short-lived compact crossover.

So, what's it all about the Toyota C-HR, the compact crossover that became an immediate hit on its home turf, only to get shortlived after nearly a decade?

Introduced in late 2016, the Toyota C-HR is designed to entice customers with its coupe-like styling, efficiency as an eco-car, and dynamics supposedly inspired by the Nurburgring—although many would argue this is theoretical. The styling, which takes its cues from the 2014 concept car, gives the C-HR a coupe-like look that some believe makes it a high-clearance sports car.

This subcompact SUV shares the TNGA platform of the Prius and is available with a 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine with all-wheel drive, or a 1.8L hybrid with front-wheel drive. Both choices are paired with a CVT. The model featured in Gran Turismo 7 is sadly the latter.

In 2017, the Toyota C-HR was one of the best-selling cars in Japan until the arrival of the Daihatsu Rocky-based Toyota Raize in late 2019 outsold it. As a result, the C-HR was discontinued in 2023.

A pre-production prototype raced in the 2016 Nurburgring 24-Hour Race and achieved 3rd place in the SP2T class. In 2019, GAZOO Racing Team Thailand raced two C-HRs in the SP3 class with one of them finishing 3rd in the said class while the other failed to start.

I went to the Nurburgring to see if the Toyota C-HR's dynamics, thanks to its TNGA platform and meager hybrid powertrain, can keep up with the world's most punishing racetrack, just like in the past. Let's roll the tape.

How's my driving with the C-HR Hybrid at the Nurburgring? Well, despite its weak performance, it feels too easy to drive even in the Nurburgring and I managed to post a 10m20.835s lap time. Not much but it's clear that the C-HR's TNGA platform and sporty dynamics are not too shabby for a coupe SUV of this size. Why would Toyota stop making one?

The Toyota C-HR is an unconventional crossover that serves as both a practical daily vehicle and an underappreciated performer at the Nurburgring. Although no longer with us, the C-HR proved that it can, as the commercials said, Crossover The World.

Keep Yourself Alive.

My FH5 Log: The Moment We Meet...

The Toyota GR 86 and the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N were featured cars in the advertisement for the Hyundai N x Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival, which aired in October 2024. In the ad, we witnessed these two sports cars racing head-on and performing drifts. It’s a long story, but in Forza Horizon 5, the experience is quite different.

The poster cars from October 2024's Hyundai N x Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival are here to settle the scores again just as how the rivalry between Hyundai and Toyota in the WRC became the talk of the town. But first, let's get to know these two.

Let's start with the Toyota GR86, the second generation of Toyota's affordable rear-wheel-drive sports coupe. The GR86 builds upon the legacy of its predecessor while maintaining the accessible driving dynamics that enthusiasts around the world appreciate. It features an improved version of the platform used by the previous model. Although the new model is similar in size to the old one, the sport-tuned suspension and updated chassis enhance the driving experience.

Under the hood, the flat-four boxer engine has been upgraded from the previous model's 2.0L to a 2.4L displacement. This change results in increased power output of 235 PS and 250 Nm of torque, with the option of a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.

Now, let's get to know about the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N, the high-performance version of Hyundai's award-winning all-electric compact crossover SUV.

The IONIQ 5 N features an 84 kWh lithium-ion battery pack equipped with two electric motors that power both the front and rear wheels. It delivers a standard output of 609 PS and 740 Nm of torque, making it more powerful than the Kia EV6 GT. With the N Grin Boost activated for ten seconds, the power increases to 650 PS. Furthermore, with N Launch Control, it can achieve a 0-100 km/h time of just 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 260 km/h.

Hyundai has truly excelled with the IONIQ 5 N, which won the 2024 World Performance Car award and was named Top Gear's 2023 Car of the Year. This high-performance electric crossover has impressive aesthetics and boasts remarkable power and speed. It set a new record at Pikes Peak, completing the course in 9 minutes and 30.852 seconds in the Modified and Production SUV/Crossover classes. This car will undoubtedly continue to attract attention and make a significant impact in the automotive industry.

Let's find out how good these two cars are around the main festival grounds. Roll the tape!

And now, the results...

GR86 - 1m25.836s

IONIQ 5 N - 1m18.662s

It's a bit misguided to compare a powerful electric SUV with an affordable rear-wheel-drive sports coupe. However, both vehicles have effectively served as promotional ambassadors for the Hyundai N x Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival. Well done, GR86 and IONIQ 5 N. You both deserve a round of applause!

"We race as competitors.

The moment we meet,

a new thrill begins."

EPILOGUE

Having grown respect for the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N for being the antithesis of the ever-growing all-electric crossover SUV market, I think it's time for this K-popper to have its own live performance but first...

A witty move. Shiki-chan would be impressed with this one.

As the Korean EV SUV hero donning the role of Liella's wittiest and most clever member, we are tackling through an EventLab creation inspired by a racetrack in Taiwan. I don't know what that is but we're going to find out. Let's rock and roll.

Smart move. I won't regret it.

In Forza Horizon 5, we are united by our passion for racing, much like Hyundai N and Toyota Gazoo Racing. While competition is a part of the game, it's not our primary focus. We come together to have fun and share our love of racing.
