When Hyundai launched the Avante/Elantra CN7 last year, it tries to stand out from the endangered midsize sedan population because of its tech, dynamics, and design despite the IVT gearbox that makes it behave like a Japanese car for no reason. That's the normal one, of course, and because Hyundai deserved more with the new model, it's about time to create an Avante like no other; the first-ever Avante N.

Priced at 32,120,000 Korean Won plus additional costs, the first-ever Hyundai Avante N can be rudely called a road-legal TCR because it really is a road-legal touring car fit for the road and track.

Although the exterior is nearly identical to the normal Avante, the N features numerous aerodynamic upgrades to differentiate it from the normal one such as an exclusive N bumper, N radiator grille, red accents on the side view, 19-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires built specifically for this car, dual single-tip muffler, and a rear wing. A rear wing! It's hard to find a sedan donning such a novelty item these days and with the Avante N, it's all show and tells for the speedo boys behind the wheel.

The same goes for the interior; the Avante N features N-exclusive sport bucket seats on the front, ambient mood lighting on the dashboard, BOSE Premium Sound System, Alcantara suede door center trim, blue accents on the gear lever, and some additional features on the speedo and sat-nav to make it more at home on the track. While the additional features made the Avante N more enjoyable for the speedo boy to toy around, it still snugs like a normal Avante and it's a civilized sedan with not-so-civilized behavior.

Like the Veloster N, the Avante N is powered by a 2.0L Turbo GDi engine that produces 280PS of power and is mated with the 8-speed wet-type DCT but with the N Grin Shift on, you'll get additional 10PS of power, making it capable of going from 0-100kph in 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 250kph, making the Avante N the fastest in its class, although no one dared to make a high-performance compact sedan like Hyundai's. In fact, the Avante N feels like it's unrivaled.

Of course, if you need serious stuff, there's a 6-speed manual variant for that because speedo boys love a good manual gearbox for the fun of it.

By calling the Avante N the road-legal version of its TCR machine, it has been festooned with numerous dynamic upgrades underneath such as the N Corner Carving Differential, integrated drive axle, electronically controlled suspension, R-MPDS, rear stiff bar, and large capacity high-performance brakes, making it more capable to handle all corners of the world. It's a great car while taking a nice track day at Yeongam or Inje Speedium but if you're in the middle of Gyeonggi-do, rest assured that its Nurburgring-honed dynamics will batter your eyelashes, almost.

Of course, while the Avante N had its fun on the track, it comes with SmartSense safety features that will make drivers heavily noticed such as FCA with Pedestrian Detection, LKA, LFA, HBA, DAW, as well as the available BCA, SCC, HDA, SEW, and PCA. That's the reality check, speedo boys.

At long last, the Avante speedo boys wanted to have has arrived as the Avante N delivers performance akin to its TCR equivalent, making it the road-legal touring car worth driving from the corners of Yeongam to the streets of Gyeonggi-do. Although not civilized for daily use, its use for track day is what the Avante N is made for.

Hyundai Avante/Elantra CN7

The previous Avante/Elantra AD wasn't a bad medium sedan full-stop when it came out several years ago but when the facelift came, it felt a bit different compared to the competition. With that, Hyundai went back to the drawing board and regenerated the Avante into the CN7 generation, and looks like they're onto something with this new model.

Starting at 15,700,000 Korean Won, the all-new Avante is the most stunning, yet technologically-advanced Avante to date because of the new features this new model offered and it's proof that Hyundai is still committed to making saloons as everyone else in the neighborhood's got succumbed to the airwaves of Crossover FM, metaphorically speaking.

Beginning with the styling, the new CN7-spec Avante is about as radical as the current Honda Civic, one of its main rivals, because of its coupe-like styling that bears the same silhouette as the one I've mentioned earlier. It's striking at its normal form but when you spec it with some LEDs at the front and at the back, it gets even more striking. One of the many reasons why the new Avante is the best-looking budget-friendly sedan at this time of new normal.

On the interior, Hyundai's done a great job creating the new Avante's interior to make it more usable and more enjoyable for all. On a more premium variant, the new model comes with two 10.25-inch monitors, one for the speedos and the other for sat-nav purposes, as well as high-tech vents, 64-color mood lighting, and many others. While the cockpit layout's more jet-set rather than the previous model, the rear space wasn't as bad as the old one as well as the boot space, which Hyundai says that it's more spacious than today's Toyota Corolla. Touche, but don't let anyone see you squeezing a big chair you got from your mom's workplace that is about to get permanently closed for obvious reasons.

Aside from the spacing, the new Avante features lots of toys to play with such as Kakao i, climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation updates on the go, heated steering wheel, heated 10-way adjustable seats, Hi-Pass System, BOSE Premium Sound System, and Hyundai CarPay, which allows you to pay for services without getting out of the car.

Under the hood, the new Avante is powered by a Smartstream 1.6L petrol engine producing 123PS of power and 15.7kg-m of torque while mated to the same IVT gearbox derived from the Kia K3. With that, combined fuel economy is 15.4km/L, which is nice but like the K3, this gearbox is too dreary to drive on the straights and it's about as enjoyable as a Japanese car mated to a CVT gearbox, which is too average but don't worry because there will be additional models heading its way.

On the handling side, thanks to its new platform, the new Avante feels so lively to move about and easier to live with. Couple that with the revised suspension setup and the results are so much you can expect from a Korean car that behaves like a good car.

In terms of safety, the new Avante offers SmartSense safety features that will make drivers heavily noticed such as FCA with Pedestrian Detection, LKA, LFA, HBA, DAW, as well as the available BCA, SCC, HDA, SEW, and PCA. Sorry, too much information.

While the performance side is a bit too Japanese because of the IVT gearbox, the new Avante is a youthful midsize sedan that not only looks good on the road, it feels good to live with.

Of course, with the midsize sedan population's decreasing to endangered levels due to the crossover phenomenon, most of them are mated with the CVT gearbox, which makes them too dreary to drive. The new Avante is one of them but while it struggles to push itself because of the IVT, it tries to stand out from the endangered midsize sedan population because of its tech, dynamics, and design, and with that, Hyundai knows how to keep this sedan alive for this new generation. The more you know.

Hyundai Avante/Elantra (AD) - 2019 minor change

Just as how Hyundai radically revamped the current-generation Sonata to make it more Grandeur-ish, the current-generation Avante (known in the world market as the Elantra) has been given a big minor change this year and with the folks brought their pencil sharpeners and blade sharpeners because they made it even more edgier than the pre-facelifted model as well as giving it more features to make it more usable.

The New Avante, as Hyundai wants you to believe, is a big minor change to the current-generation AD model and for this big minor change, The New Avante features a much sharper design inspired from its big brothers and more technological features fit for day-to-day basis at work or at weekends with family and friends.

For starters, the exterior design features a new front face, a new rear, new wheel designs, and LED headlights on more expensive models. On the inside, they've revamped the center cluster, the air vents, the controls, and the storage tray, among many others. It even has useful features such as a hidden-type trunk button that allows users to open the trunk by touching the Hyundai badge on it as well as a wireless chargning port for today's smartphones, all adds up to a more usable Avante for everyday use.

The engine lineup's changed and the new Avante now comes with a brand new SmartStream G1.6 engine which comes with Dual Port Fuel Injection System and Integral Thermal Management System. This is the same new engine that powers the brand new Kia K3 months ago. It produces 123PS of power and 15.7kgf•m of fuel economy. Just like the new Kia K3, this variant is mated to a brand new SmartStream Intelligent Variable Transmission or IVT which is, annoyingly, a CVT that behaves differently because it uses adaptive style shift logic with a chain-type belt instead of push belt, a first in the compact class. Rings a bell, huh? Although the performance is somewhat upsetting with this powertrain, the fuel efficiency is not so bad as it can get up to 15.2km/L combined.

If you want your Avante to keep going, you can even opt in for a 17.8km/L 1.6L e-VGT diesel engine with 136PS of power and 30.6 kgf•m of torque, but this is not the time to talk about that because in today's times, talking diesel is no longer part of our daily lives, well almost.

It maybe Korean but the way it performs is typically Japanese, much like your dad's Civic but unlike that, the new Avante comes prepared with Hyundai SmartSense safety features in more expensive variants such as Foward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Driver Attention Alert, and Safe Exist Assist, among many others. Now that's usable for day-to-day use.

The 2019 Hyundai Avante minor change starts at 14,040,000 Korean Won so it is cheaper to buy than the all-new Kia K3, making it a bargain of the year.

Hyundai New Avante/Elantra (AD)

Hyundai's Avante (known as the Elantra in the world market) has been regenerated and for this regeneration, it becomes more of a questionable compact midsize saloon rather than a stylish one, probably thanks to Hyundai's Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design first seen on the Genesis premium saloon. While this may have some eccentric looks that some say they stole it from the Mazda Axela's, what's it like to be in the new model?

With the slogan "Super Normal" comes into the new Avante's mind, Hyundai says that this all-new Avante has been through lot of tests to ensure that this C-segment saloon is on par against the Japanese biggies. Although the design is not what you called stylish, it has a drag coefficient of 0.27 Cd, making it the lowest of its class courtesy of its Wheel Air Curtains alongside its bumper ribs and the under cover. It's now longer and wider than the previous model and 53% of the new Avante's bodywork comprises of Advanced High Strength Steel, making it more stiffer and more durable.

Although the exterior design will leave car enthusiasts some mixed reactions, expect the same thing on the interior as well because while the previous MD model looks somewhat rakish and radical, the new AD model's interior is becoming more uniform as what present-day Hyundais had. Once you get in, you can't really tell the difference between this and any other Hyundais offered. While the interior is becoming a Hyundai uniformity for bigger things to come, there are some concessions of conveniences offered such as rear air-con vents, Integrated Memory Seat, Smart Trunk, optional Harman audio system, and Smart Navigation + 7 inches Rear View Camera. Yes. It's becoming more tech-savvy for the millennials right now.

Like the previous Avante MD model, the new Avante AD model is offered with two engine choices; a 1.6L GDi engine producing 132PS of power and 164Nm of torque or a 1.6L e-VGT engine with 136PS and 183Nm of torque. Most variants can be offered with either a 6-speed AT or a 6-speed MT but on the diesel variant, a 7-speed double clutch gearbox is an exclusivity.

As for dynamics, the new Avante comes with an updated Motor Driven Power Steering that provides better handling response at different speeds, resulting to even better stability on corners but I'm not sure if these drivers react to this upgraded electric power steering, presumably. As for silence, the new model has better NVH thanks to new windscreen wipers, thickened glass windows, and a rear-wheel guard made from new materials.

Safety-wise the new Avante is loaded with tech such as automatic braking system, High Beam Assist, Blind Spot Detector with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. It even comes with SPAS for parking purposes and a Lamp Disconnection Diagnostic System which warns the drivers that one of its headlamps are out, meaning they'd better service it at their nearest Hyundai dealer for a new set of lights.

The Avante is now available with an introductory price of 13,840,000 to 21,250,000 Won for the petrol model and 16,000,000 to 23,710,000 Won for the diesel model. It doesn't sound cheap but it's a smart buy full stop. So, what's to like about the Avante? Affordability? Perhaps. Drivability? Think so. Tech. Presumably. And what's not to like? Perhaps it's the styling that doesn't really woo the crowd.

2014 Hyundai Avante

Having been on the block since its arrival in the summer of 2010, the current-generation Hyundai Avante (known globally as the Elantra) has been given a minor facelift via revised bumpers, redesigned lamps, new rear lamps, new 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels and chrome molding on its belt line, and yes, it's 20 mm longer than the 2010-2013MY pre-facelift model.

On the interior, see any changes? Well, there's some. You can expect a 3.5-inch OLED display, ventilated seats, and that's it. Also, it's now made even more tech-savvy than ever because not only The New Avante comes with a heavily enhanced version of Smart Parking Assist System (SPAS), but also integrated with Hyundai's BlueLink telematics system that has a nifty feature where your smartphone serves as a carkey where you can open, close, or even start the engine. Clever, isn't it?

2014 Hyundai Avante

Well, you can expect the Gamma 1.6 GDi petrol engine which churns out 140PS of power and fuel economy of 14.0km/L but for the 2014 model, there's now a U2 1.6 VGT diesel engine added and for this one, this produces about 128PS of power, almost 20 less than the petrol equivalent, and promises a fuel economy of 16.2km/L. Not bad for this one.

Oh yeah, Flex Steer is added on the new Avante and for this one, FLEX STEER has three modes labeled ECO, NORMAL, and SPORT, each affects its driving style at the touch of the button.

As for pricing, The New Avante starts at 13,950,000 Korean Won for the entry level model up to 20,900,000 Korean Won for the top-of-the-line model with  the 1.6L VGT diesel engine.

Straight from the official Hyundai Motor Facebook page, they're teasing a facelifted model of the Hyundai Avante (known worldwide as the Elantra). Based on the teaser, meh. Just the lamps, the new design of the rims, and the rear lamps. The slogan says here "OVER THE CLASS" and the naming "THE NEW AVANTE" really sums up for the upcoming 2014 minor model change.

Hyundai Avante Coupe

Now, as you may remember, Season 3 of the hit zombie survival drama The Walking Dead came to a finish and if you've already watched the season ender, well, you guys really shocked about what happened at the season finale. Well, anyway, while waiting for the next season this late 2013, we're just making a suggestion about a particular machine the main characters drove. The Hyundai Tucson iX as seen on The Walking Dead is a particular kind of crossover you want to drive in the midst of the zombie outbreak but even though it has enough cargo for munitions and more passenger space for survivors, there's just one thing the Hyundai Tucson doesn't have...performance. As a suggestion to Robert Kirkman, how about a Hyundai that does it well rather than the Tucson?

2013 Hyundai Avante Coupe

This is the brand-new Hyundai Avante Coupe, the two-door equivalent of the Avante/Elantra MD and most Koreans waited for this new model to arrive for a year since its world premiere at last year's Chicago Auto Show and its sudden appearance at last year's Busan Auto Show. However, there's one main reason why the new Avante Coupe should be a fitting Hyundai for the upcoming season of The Walking Dead...

First of all, if you were in last year's San Diego Comic Con, you should know that the would be called Avante Coupe made an appearance on that convention, only this time, some cool zombie-proof weaponry was penned by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman. Scary, isn't it? Sadly, this one-off was made to celebrate the 100th issue of The Walking Dead comic book and this car needs to be appeared on the hit TV series. If that would happen, this should be much better killing off a zombie horde with added performance art.

Sadly though, the zombie outbreak takes moments from now and anyway, this is the real world so no zombies here. Anyway, the Avante Coupe...

It's like the Hyundai Avante MD, it still carries the same "Wind Craft" design concept, as part of Hyundai's Fluidic Sculpture design philosophy, so therefore, it's still the same old Avante MD only this time, less doors. The interior is also familiar to Avante fans many. So therefore, it's just a economy sedan disguised as a sports coupe which claims to be designed for those who are young and exciting. This doesn't seems to be exciting to drive though because by the moment I set foot on the Avante Coupe, this is about as dull as playing a game of Cards Against Humanity with your friends while on a recess break.

And then, there was the engine. The Avante Coupe features a brand-new Nu 2.0L GDi engine which develops about 175PS of power and 21.3kg-m of torque. So, this power output is not quite enticing for speedo boys who are obsessed to those Japan-made 1.8L compact FF sedan with the H on the front grille but as for the transmission types, you can either have a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission just in case if you're in a mood for fun and games. Sadly though, the new Avante Coupe isn't just fun and games. It's just a kind of person who doesn't distinguish between reality and fantasy, the truth or false, the right or wrong.

Even though you're with the 6-speed manual, it's still doesn't have the same "Speedo Boy" feeling that you'd normally get on a Japanese sports car but despite being a rubbish take on all comers, the Avante Coupe sure knows when will it redeem itself from the crowd. It maybe ideal for a car meet but when you're out there challenging against another "speedo boy", rest assured that "speedo boy" kicked your butt once and for all, realizing that you're a total embarassment to the crowd. Best thing to do if you have the Avante Coupe is simple, don't challenge a "speedo boy" or he'll make a wedgie out of you. That's quite embarassing if you got a wedgie on your tail.

The only way for the Avante Coupe to redeem itself is to have itself featured on The Walking Dead rather than the green-colored Tucson iX but only if it comes with the same treatment as seen from the 2012 San Diego Comic Con. This should be great and if that showed up, this will up the ante. Looking forward for that. Makes me wanna shut up and take my money...

Langdong is Chinese for Avante

At the AUTO CHINA 2012 in Beijing, Hyundai Motor Company, whose joint venture in China is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2012, revealed what you might think of it as a Chinese version of the Hyundai Avante/Elantra MD, which was launched in South Korea since August 2010. It's called the Langdong (朗動).

Says here that only the 1.6L and 1.8L MPi engines are offered for the Langdong and once more, Hyundai will introduce its advanced Blue Link infotainment system to Hyundai Langdong. Remember that Blue Link infotainment system was first introduced on the new Santa Fe DM, which was launched in South Korea last week.

Hyundai Elantra, Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Win North American Car and Truck of the Year

DETROIT, - The Hyundai Elantra is the 2012 North American Car of the Year and the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is the 2012 North American Truck of the Year.

The winners were revealed Monday morning at a news conference at the North American International Auto Show.

The winners were chosen by a jury of 50 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada.

The awards are unique in the United States because instead of being given by a single media outlet they are awarded by a coalition of automotive journalists from the United States and Canada who represent magazines, television, radio, newspapers and web sites.

The awards are designed to recognize the most outstanding new vehicles of the year. These vehicles are benchmarks in their segments based on factors including innovation, comfort, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value for the dollar.

It is the second win for Hyundai. In 2009 the Genesis won. The Sonata was one of three finalists last year.

It was the first win for Land Rover although Land Rovers were finalists twice before.

The jurors gave the Elantra 174 points, the Passat 161 and the Focus 155.

The jurors gave the Evoque 254 points, the CR-V 142 and the X3 94.

"The Hyundai Elantra is sporty, yet sensible. Luxurious, yet affordable. Spunky, but safe. The Elantra is a series of paradoxes and every one is another argument for the latest, impressive entry in the Hyundai lineup," wrote Jayne O'Donnell, a member of the jury from USA Today.

Another juror, Alex Taylor, of Fortune magazine, wrote: "Range Rover successfully charts a new direction for the venerable SUV trailblazer with a fresh design and advanced thinking about environmental issues."

Domestic automakers have won North American Car of the Year 10 times. Japanese automakers have won three times. European automakers have won four times. A Korean automaker has won twice.

Domestic automakers have won North American Truck of the Year 12 times. Japanese automakers have won four times. European automakers have won three times.

This was the 19th year of the awards and it was the strongest showing by European automakers in 15 years with BMW, Land Rover and Volkswagen each having finalists. In 1997 Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar and BMW were the three car finalists with the winner being the Mercedes SLK.

To be eligible a vehicle must be all new or substantially changed. The jurors considered dozens of new vehicles before sending their ballots to Michelle Collins, a partner at Deloitte & Touche early in December.

On December 15th the three car and truck finalists were announced. But only Ms. Collins knew the winners until she handed over envelopes today to Tony Swan, editor-at-large at Car and Driver magazine and a member of the awards' organizing committee. Mr. Swan announced the winners.

This is the 19th year of the awards, which were inspired by the "Car of the Year" in Europe.

They are administered by an organizing committee and are funded with dues paid by the jurors. There are no paid positions. Automakers do not pay to have their vehicles considered or to use the awards in ads.

The "2011 North American Car of the Year" was the Chevrolet Volt.

Last year's "2011 North American Truck of the Year" was the Ford Explorer.

Remember the ad from the Super Bowl 2011: SNAP OUT OF IT

Now, Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI) wants us to snap out of the compact conspiracy with the launch of the fifth-generation Hyundai Elantra (known as the Avante MD) to the Philippines that will go on sale this June 2011!

Two engine types are available for the new Elantra such as the all-new 1.8L Nu MPI engine and the Gamma 1.6 MPI D-CVVT engine. The 1.8L variant has a power output of 150PS and a torque output of 18.2 kg-m while the 1.6L variant gets 130PS of power and 16kg-m of torque.

With pricing not yet announced until June 2011, HARI says that the high-end 1.8L variant will be priced below P900,000.

Hyundai Avante MD (Elantra Mk.V)

Since its world premiere at the Busan International Motor Show at BEXCO, the Avante (known worldwide as the Elantra) received an eagerly awaited full model change after spending four years with the previous Avante HD (while this platform still be used on the Avante LPI Hybrid, now on its 2011 model year) that was based on the axed Kia Cerato.

Being a true rival to the Kia Forte seems to be a trump act to follow, the new Avante is now better than the best thanks to the Wind Craft concept as part of Hyundai's fluidic sculpture philosophy and the brand's first GDi 1.6L engine that makes the Avante the best Korean eco car manufactured.

What is Wind Craft?
As part of Hyundai Motor Company's design philosophy "fluidic sculpture", the new Avante MD's exterior is biased on the Wind Craft concept design. If we want to know why Wind Craft is described on the Avante's exterior is, it is simple. Try examining the front face, the new Avante is somewhat similar to the latest Tucson ix crossover, and if you look closely to the back, the Avante is much more of a miniature version of the Sonata YF. What is the GDi 1.6L engine?
For the first time in Hyundai Motor Company's history, the new 1.6 GDi engine equipped on the new MD Avante made this compact car a true fuel-efficient eco car that is worthy enough to prove that even Koreans create eco cars more than Japanese car makers do. About this new GDi engine, the power output is 140PS/6300 rpm that has more power than the Kia Forte's 124PS found on the 1.6L engine. By gaining a eco car status, the new Avante's fuel economy reached to a modest 16.5km/L, which means that fuel economy is also greater than the Kia Forte's 15.2km/L found on the 1.6L engine. This is how so many reasons Koreans are ready to switch to the new Avante thanks to its advantages of a true eco car.

My thoughts about the Avante:
When Japanese car manufacturers focused on creating eco cars, Koreans are never left behind making eco cars targeted for its fuel efficiency. With the new GDi 1.6L engine equipped, the new Avante shines on the battle of the eco cars that makes car manufacturers as participants of the Battle of the Brains. I am truly sure which car manufacturer has the brains to create fuel-efficient cars. Look around them, Honda has the CR-Z, Nissan has the March, Mitsubishi readies the i-MiEV, and other brands readying their fuel-efficient eco cars to show which has the brains. The new Avante truly has the potential of being a staunch eco car targeted for the masses and if that is enough, the Philippines might have a chance of getting the Avante as the Elantra and if I price it, the new Avante will cost 1.8 million Pesos as I speak.
