Joker: Folie à Deux

The origin story of one of the deadliest criminals in the Batman universe continues in what was known to be the long-awaited sequel to the 2019 blockbuster movie.

Joaquin Phoenix returns to reprise the role of Joker in the next chapter of Joker's origin story, directed by Todd Phillips, who was responsible for the award-winning 2019 movie.

Set moments after the first film, as Arthur "Joker" Fleck, played by Phoenix, is institutionalized at Arkham awaiting trial for his crimes, he makes a fateful encounter with a mysterious woman, played by singer Lady Gaga, who will break his heart and, ultimately, break him out to freedom.

Gaga's performance as the mysterious woman in the sequel sparked speculations that this is the origin story of Harley Quinn, a femme fatale who is Joker's right-hander but it's extremely complicated to answer.

Despite complicating questions and answers overshadowing the sequel, it's still a credible artisan pick. It might be a worthy contender for next year's Oscars because it still delivers powerful emotions like the previous Joker movie.

This sequel sure knows how to "face the music" spectacularly and this bigger and bolder sequel is one of the must-watch of the autumn movie season.

Joker (movie)

The secret origin of the most maniacal villain that plagued Gotham City forever has been revealed in a more spectacular fashion as Joaquin Phoenix puts on a killer performance as the Joker in the film that will showcase the rise of The Joker and how he became the bad guy we all love to hate.

Joker

Directed by Todd Phillips, this origin story centers on the life and times of Arthur Fleck, the man who became The Joker. In his so-called not-so-humble beginnings, Fleck is just your ordinary clown-for-hire who wants to be a comedian but the joke's on him. Enraged, Arthur Fleck unleashed his brand of fury that forever turned him into one of the most iconic villains in the DC Comics universe.

This film enraptured the masses since it was first screened at the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival and because of such powerful performance from Joaquin Phoenix as the man who became The Joker, this origin story really is a magnum opus of the year and by such chance, it could be competing in the Oscars against 2019's greats.

Let's hope the Oscar wish may come true for this powerful, thought-provoking film, but in the meantime, there are so many reasons why the world must watch the origin story of The Joker but there is one very good reason why they should; it's about knowing your enemy's backstory in an extravagant way that will leave you mind-blown to the very end.

My rating: 4.5 out of 5.
