"There's always a twist in the end." That's what The Doctor sang after defeating Maestro in The Devil's Chord but strangely, this isn't just his victory song. It's a forewarning.
A forewarning that saw the mysterious lady, played by Susan Twist, popping up in his adventures and with Maestro's warning about "the one who waits", things are going full circle as the recent Doctor Who episode, the first of the two-part season finale, unmasks the biggest mysteries The Doctor and Ruby encountered.
Doctor Who S1E7 |
The story begins with The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) arriving at UNIT HQ, where Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave), and some new and familiar faces such as Rose Noble (Yasmin Finney), Harriett, and Morris Gibbons (Lenny Rush) await. They arrived for two purposes; unmasking the mysterious lady that pops up in every adventure from Space Babies to Rogue, and lastly, finding out who is Ruby Sunday's real mother.
About the mysterious lady that pops up every adventure, UNIT identified the woman as Susan Triad, the boss of a tech company called S TRIAD TECHNOLOGY. Although UNIT intel came up with nothing about Susan Triad, apart from the obvious theory that the "S TRIAD" name in the company is an anagram for TARDIS, there's something that made The Doctor intrigued about the woman. She has the same name as his granddaughter. With Mel Bush (Bonnie Langford) spying on Susan Triad, they're getting to the bottom of this.
Moving to the search for Ruby Sunday's real mother, Ruby and Rose went home to obtain the VHS containing the footage of the Church on Ruby Road on Christmas Eve 2004 as well as bringing Ruby's foster mother, Carla, to the UNIT HQ. As the neighbor Mrs. Flood is left to take care of Ruby's foster grandmother Cherry. Mrs. Flood warns of an imminent threat incoming.
With the VHS and Carla Sunday in UNIT HQ, The Doctor and Ruby are entering UNIT's Time Window to uncover the truth. Sadly, they can't confirm the face of Ruby's real mother but where is she pointing at the moment The Doctor encountered her? As the mysterious woman left the church of Ruby Road, a sinister force appeared. As the Time Window bursts, they find a dead UNIT soldier who came into this...force.
As The Doctor and Mel rush to Susan Triad's scheduled keynote, the UNIT team uncovers something threatening. The sinister force they saw on the VHS is surrounding the TARDIS and now, the force around the TARDIS is within proxy. As the UNIT team prepared for the imminent danger, Susan Triad's keynote got interrupted when she witnessed something. Worse, the Harriett that UNIT recruited turned out to be Harriett Arbinger, the Harbinger, prophesizing the arrival of a god.
The god the Harbinger prophesized, the sinister force lurking through the TARDIS, is none other than Sutekh, the god of death.
The plot of the newest episode of Doctor Who has left fans with mouths agape as the sinister force that has been lurking through the TARDIS was revealed: Sutekh, the god of death. Who saw that coming? Did anyone? I mean, the Harbinger did prophesy the arrival of a god, but I think we were all expecting something more... alien.
Having witnessed the arrival of the deadliest God of Ragnarok since The Toymaker, The Trickster, Maestro, The Mara, and the other Gods of Ragnarok that plagued the Whoniverse, the episode finally answered the question regarding the mysterious lady who pops up every episode from Wild Blue Yonder, The Church on Ruby Road to Rogue, although it didn't reveal who is Ruby's birth mother.
That is The Legend of Ruby Sunday in a nutshell. Not only does it unmask the truth about the mysterious woman played by Susan Twist, but it also unmasks this season's final boss.
Don't miss the finale next week but in the meantime, let's enjoy some bonus extras:
