Summer racing season in NASCAR has commenced as the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series continues in the World Wide Technology Raceway for the Enjoy Illinois 300.
As the green flag waved, 300 miles of oval racing action signaled the start of the NASCAR summer season. In Stage 1, Bubba Wallace and Brad Keselowski made contact. At the same time, John Hunter Nemechek and Cody Ware collided and spun two laps later, followed by a Lap 18 disaster for Cody Ware and Derek Kraus, and a suspected loose wheel that forced Brad Keselowski to pit on Lap 20.
As Christopher Bell won Stage 1, Stage 2 saw Martin Truex Jr. lose his left rear tire on Lap 108, Josh Berry get into the wall on Lap 113, and Kyle Larson get loose in turn 1 under Kyle Busch.
With Stage 2 in Christopher Bell's bag, the final stage witnessed the most dramatic NASCAR moment of the season as Ryan Blaney's race to victory crumbled when he ran out of gas right before the moment the final lap began.
