Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Special 3

HOLD IT! Ensure that you have already watched the episode before coming back here for my quick review. Come back here when you have already watched it.

Picking up after the end of Wild Blue Yonder, The Doctor (David Tennant) and Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) are caught in a state of discord around the streets. Summoned by UNIT, they're dealing with a mysterious force that caused humanity discord. As they are solving the puzzle, they've revealed a mysterious piece of the puzzle; the first televised image in history. A sinister laughter plaguing humanity into chaos.

As UNIT prepares a laser weapon to shoot down the satellite, The Doctor and Donna arrive in 1925 to find the source. This is where they meet The Celestial Toymaker (Neil Patrick Harris), the most powerful enemy once defeated by The Doctor a lifetime ago.

Trapped in the deadliest game The Toymaker ever orchestrated, The Doctor and Donna face their greatest fears, surviving whatever games The Toymaker will throw at them. The Doctor was defeated by The Toymaker at the game of trumps but because they both won, their final battle will be in present-day London. As UNIT shot down the KOSAT satellite, The Doctor and Donna returned to UNIT HQ, intercepting the source until The Toymaker raids the UNIT HQ.

As The Toymaker gets his hands on UNIT's laser weapon, The Doctor tries to reason with him until The Doctor is shot by The Toymaker. As Donna and Mel Bush (Bonnie Langford) stand up for him, The Doctor meets his future self (Ncuti Gatwa) and then splits into two, or in other words, bi-generation. Something that The Doctor has never done in his lifetime.

With two Doctors vs. The Toymaker, their endgame is a game of ball. They fought ferociously until the new Doctor's decisive throw caused The Toymaker to miss the ball. The two Doctors won the battle, putting the end of The Toymaker's madness for good...in the box.

After the final battle, the new Doctor bids his predecessor, Donna, and all of UNIT farewell, but not before the new Doctor leaves his predecessor a parting gift; duplicating the TARDIS. Moments after, The Doctor, Donna, and Mel hang out with the family peacefully, a happy ending for the DoctorDonna tandem as the new Doctor sets off.

The final chapter of the 60th Anniversary trilogy is the biggest sendoff to the DoctorDonna saga and a chance for The 15th Doctor to make his first move. Not only did the episode bring back The Celestial Toymaker but also the legendary companion Mel Bush. It also showcases The Doctor did something he had never done before; splitting himself into two, his outgoing and incoming forms. That's the magic of bi-generation.

Who knew the 15th Doctor could be so...bisexual? Anyway, LGBT questions aside regarding the new Doctor, at least the 15th Doctor gave the DoctorDonna their happy ending after a little TARDIS hack he made by creating a TARDIS clone with a hammer.

Having enjoyed the dramatic conclusion, it left us with cryptic warnings such as The Toymaker's "legions" and the possible revival of The Master as hinted by the gold tooth. What do these cryptic hints mean? Only time will tell...

Even with the trilogy ended, David Tennant proved himself that he's still the GOAT in the Whoniverse. He really is. With the baton passed, let's wish the 15th Doctor the best of luck on his true maiden voyage happening this Christmas day. In the meantime, let's enjoy some special extras before getting ready for The 15th Doctor's proper maiden voyage.
