My Top 5 MNL48 songs

MNL48, the sister group of the megahit AKB48 franchise, celebrated its fifth anniversary recently. 

Ever since the group assembled in early 2018 from countless auditions, MNLoves across the Philippines and across the globe have been glued to this group for their ongoing developments such as their songs, the members, and other happenings. Five years and three generations later, it feels like MNL48 became one of the forerunners of the Philippine wave.

As the group gears up for its Fourth Generation, it's time for me to jot down the five best MNL48 songs in honor of the group's 5th anniversary.

5) 365 Araw ng Eroplanong Papel - MNL48's 3rd single, titled 365 Araw ng Eroplaning Papel, marked the end of the group's First Generation and this song truly is the perfect sendoff to the generation that started it all.

4) RIVER - The MNL48 version of RIVER is hardcore by MNL48 standards as well as the opening salvo we all love. MNL~~~~~~~~~48! A well-known tidbit is the song's music video was made during the early moments of the COVID pandemic, meaning even while undergoing strict health protocols, the MNL48 girls sure know how to rock the world.

3) High Tension - Let's admit it, the MNL48 version of the AKB48 hit, High Tension, is by no means one of the catchiest songs you won't get off your heads, probably because of the catchy chorus line; Tension sion sion sion sion tension max.

2) Aitakatta -Gustong Makita - The Tagalized version of the AKB48 hit song Aitakatta will be forever known as the song that kickstarted MNL48's rise to fame. 

1) Pag-Ibig Fortune Cookie - MNL48's Tagalized version of the AKB48 hit song Koisuru Fortune Cookie is a real record-breaker in MNL48's own right. Although this song inspired a challenge to MNLoves worldwide, the song's MV has over three million views on its official YouTube Channel as of now. An astonishing achievement.

What a wild ride the girls have been. Since their debut in 2018,  the girls made a lot of moments over the course of the year as well as some hilarious moments such as breaking toy hammers, falling down in class, the Dancing Is Life part, and everything. Five years and three generations later, MNL48 is still with us and as the group is working for its Fourth Generation batch, what's next for MNL48 above and beyond?
