- The Philippine Coast Guard confirmed its confrontation against boats from the Chinese Coast Guard and Navy in the West Philippine Sea. One of two China Coast Guard vessels pulled a "dangerous maneuver" near the PCG ship while conducting maritime patrol. Meanwhile, the PCG challenged the China Coast Guard by radio, insisting on their legitimate patrolling within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone.
- According to the World Health Organization, the number of COVID-19 deaths has dropped by 95% this year. However, the WHO warns that newer variants continue to emerge, even more serious ones.
- Rail workers at 14 train operators across the UK will hold a strike on the 13th of May, the day of the Eurovision Song Contest finals, after the RMT union rejected the pay offer from train operators. It follows train drivers' union Aslef calling strikes on the 12th and 31st of May, and on June 3rd, the day of the FA Cup Final.
- The police investigating the murder of a pregnant teacher in Glasgow have found the body of a man in a reservoir, It's still yet to be identified, but officers believe it is David Yates, age 36, the partner of Marella Sturrock, age 35, who was found dead at her home on Tuesday.
- The ceasefire in Sudan was extended but the fighting continues.
- The US government is imposing sanctions on the Russian intelligence agency, the FSB.
- Skoda will unveil the next-generation Superb and Kodiaq range this autumn.
- McLaren is reportedly set to unveil a hypercar successor to the P1 and their first SUV in the mid-2020s.
- The Transformers franchise is getting an animated prequel movie tentatively titled Transformers One, coming this summer 2024.
- BAE173 member Nam Dohyon has filed for an injunction against his agency PocketDol Studio for the suspension of his contract.
- Veteran TV presenter Jerry Springer passed away at the age of 79. Springer died peacefully at his Chicago home, according to reports. Born in Highgate during World War II, and served as mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio from 1977-78, Jerry Springer rose to fame with his controversially famous TV talk show that saw guests fighting at each other.
