- The Philippines and China have inked 14 bilateral deals during President Bongbong Marcos' state visit.

- The US House of Representatives has adjourned for the second day without electing a speaker. Republican Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy has failed six times to get elected because 20 Republicans have rebelled against him.

- Pope Francis will preside over the funeral of his predecessor, Benedict XVI, at the Vatican. After the ceremony, Benedict XVI will be buried in the crypt beneath St. Peter's Basilica.

- EU crisis response officials are recommending travel controls on visitors from China where COVID infections have exploded. The guidance includes passengers with negative results before departing from China and random testing.

- Amazon is slashing over 18,000 jobs, mostly from Amazon stores, services, and tech teams across numerous countries.

- Heavy rains and powerful winds caused by the bomb cyclone are lashing coastal areas in the US state of California. The state governor declared a state of emergency.

- Ssangyong Motor could be renamed as KG Mobility, according to reports. The said Korean carmaker was acquired by KG Group at the end of 2022. It could be the fourth time the car company changed its name since it started operations in 1954 and the first since 1998.

- Sony Honda Mobility unveiled the AFEELA car brand with their prototype vehicle at the recent CES. The first AFEELA vehicle will go on sale in North America in the spring of 2026 and in Japan in the second half of the same year.
