- Pro-democracy protests occurred across Brazil in the aftermath of Jair Bolsonaro supporters storming the National Congress, the Supreme Court, and the presidential palace. Tens of thousands took to the streets of Sao Paulo.

- Mexican president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador told Joe Biden it's time the US showed less sustain for Latin America. The two leaders held bilateral talks in Mexico City, discussing migration, illegal drugs, and economic cooperation.

- Over 25,000 people in the US state of California have been told to evacuate as yet another storm hits the battered state. This includes the entire community of Montecito.

- At least 17 people were killed in Peru in clashes between protestors and security forces. Dozens were hurt in some of the worst violence since the arrest of ousted leader Pedro Castillo.

- Lawyers representing the imprisoned Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai have been requesting a meeting with the British government for six months to try to secure his release.

- Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin was released from the UC Medical Center after spending almost a week in the hospital following his cardiac arrest on the field.

- The California Legislative Women's Caucus is demanding the removal of Dana White as UFC president. The letter comes after a video surfaced last week of White slapping his wife at a nightclub in Mexico on New Year's Eve.
