The clocks fell back, the stage is set, and the end is now as the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series Championship in Phoenix Raceway will decide once and for all who will be this season's champion. The Championship 4, consisting of Christopher Bell, Ross Chastain, Chase Elliott, and Joey Logano are desperate to get their hands on the title.
However, before the finale kicked off, they received word that the co-owner of Joe Gibbs Racing, Coy Gibbs, recently passed away. As a result, Ty Gibbs is not racing the #23 Monster Energy Toyota Camry TRD at Phoenix Raceway. In his place, Daniel Hemric drives the #23 in the finale.
After a moment of silence in honor of Coy Gibbs, the green flag has waved and the finale is on. With Joey Logano's winning Stage 1, Stage 2 saw Lando Cassill and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. caused a caution-triggering spin while the Championship 4 contenders got their hands full, taking each other out one way or another.
With Ryan Blaney winning Stage 2, the final stage saw Chase Elliott's championship hopes in shambles after a spin on the restart, the tire carrier for the #17 Ford was struck by a competitor car during a pit stop, a trouble on pit road sets Ross Chastain back late, a Brad Keselowski caught fire, and Logano's fight to the finish.
