The F1 22 season continues in Monza for the Italian Grand Prix where a familiar face in motorsport gets to be the transfer of the day. Following Alex Albon's appendicitis diagnosis, a Formula E driver named Nyck De Vries takes his place as a Williams driver for the day, marking his F1 debut.
Long before the start of the race, everyone in Monza is taking a moment of silence in memoriam of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
As the lights went off, the action in Monza is on and Max Verstappen is off for some quick gains. With six laps down, Charles Leclerc is leading while Verstappen's chasing Leclerc's six. However, come lap 12, Sebastian Vettel's last day in Monza is done when smoke is poured into his car and pulled out, triggering a virtual safety car. As the race restarts, Verstappen kicks in until he went to the pits on Lap 26. On Lap 33, Fernando Alonso's 349th race ended in tears when the team told him to surrender.
With 43 laps down, Verstappen is now 18 seconds ahead of Leclerc and things are getting more intense when Daniel Ricciardo's experiencing problems, triggering a safety car in the process.
