It's playoffs time and the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs kicked off in Darlington Raceway for the Cook Out Southern 500 race. The first step of deciding who has the right to advance to the final 12 is on.
As the green flag waved, the first playoff match of the season is on. The first stage saw trouble in the pit lane for Kevin Harvick, engine troubles for Kyle Larson, and a spin from Chase Elliott. As William Byron wins Stage 1, Stage 2 saw Kyle Larson spinning out of commission. With Stage 2 going to Kyle Busch, the finale saw Kevin Harvick's car catch fire, a blown engine for Kyle Busch, and a surprise winner.

Erik Jones wins the Cook Out Southern 500 of the NASCAR Cup Series. Since he's not in the playoffs, this race is pretty much a "no contest" for the playoffs contenders.
The fight for the final 12 continues in Kansas for the Hollywood Casino 400 this September 11.
