It's the beginning of the new era of Formula 1 racing as the 2022 season marks the debut of the new-generation Formula 1 car featuring a radical redesign and improved dynamics compared to the previous F1 car. Apart from the new machine, the F1 2022 season marks the debut of Zhou Guanyu, the first Chinese F1 driver, representing Alfa Romeo, and the return of Kevin Magnussen in Haas.
With new and returning faces aside, the new era of Formula One kicked off in Sakhir for the Bahrain Grand Prix. It's the true test to demonstrate the true capabilities of the new F1 machines and this is where the real action starts.
The race kicks off with Charles Leclerc storming to the lead and other drivers are charging through. However, come lap 4, Mick Schumacher spun out following contact with Esteban Ocon. Halfway through the race, the action intensifies further for the drivers and as the end is near, Pierre Gasly's day in Bahrain has ended when his car caught fire. With three laps left, as Max Verstappen struggles to catch up with Leclerc, disaster struck last year's champion as his car lost power, sent to the pits, and sadly retired. Worse for Red Bull, the final lap saw Sergio Perez spun out at turn 1, giving Lewis Hamilton the opportunity to clinch the podium spot.
