Tokyo 2020 Highlights - Final Day

 

August 8, 2021 - FINAL DAY

After almost three weeks of witnessing the world's best athletes competing in the midst of the ongoing pandemic, the Tokyo 2020 Olympics finally came to an end but before the Tokyo Olympics end, let's find out who are the winners on the final day of the Olympics.

In Athletics, Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge won the Men's Marathon Final.

In Basketball, the US defeated Japan to win the Women's Gold Medal Game.

In Boxing, Ireland's Harrington defeated Brazil's Beatriz Ferreira to win the Women's Light Final Bout while USA's Keyshawn Davis was defeated by Andy Cruz of Cuba at the Men's Light Bout. Lauren Price of Great Britain defeated China's Li Qian at the Women's Middle Final Bout and Uzbekistan's Jalolov defeated Torrez Jr. of the US at the Men's Super Heavy Final Bout.

Canada, Great Britain, and the US took home the gold medals at the Cycling Track.

The Handball events saw Norway and France taking home the gold medals.

Bulgarian wins the Group All-Around Final Rotation 2, the USA at the Women's Gold Medal Match in Volleyball, and Serbia at Water Polo. Men's Gold Medal Match.

In the final medal tally, Team USA completely dominated the Tokyo 2020 games with 39 gold medal wins and 113 overall wins. China is placed 2nd with 38 golds and 88 overall medals, and host country Japan finished 3rd with 27 golds and 58 total medals.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics ended with a closing ceremony with athletes and flagbearers come together at the Olympic Stadium to bid farewell and the baton passing to the 2024 Summer Olympics venue; Paris, France.

...and that is the end of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. It really is the Olympics like no other due to the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, but despite the ongoing struggle, the Tokyo Olympics has been completed with flying colors and to them, it's proof "that there is always hope."
