After a brief summer recess, the F1 2021 season is back at Spa for the Belgian Grand Prix, and with wet conditions in place, this is where things get ugly for the drivers, especially Lewis Hamilton who is trying to defend his title hopes from the Max Verstappen resurgence.
During a warm-up lap, Sergio Perez crashed through the barriers at Les Combes, triggering a red flag that delayed the race. After several hours, the formation lap began behind the safety car but as the rain gets heavy, the red flag has been triggered again. After several hours, the race resumed again but sadly, the third red flag is waved and the race has been prematurely ended.

Because of Max Verstappen currently leading the race before the third red flag was waved, he is technically the winner of the Belgian Grand Prix while George Russell scored his first podium finish by placing 2nd and Lewis Hamilton finished 3rd.
After the premature end of the Belgian Grand Prix, the gap between Hamilton and Verstappen has been shrunk to three points, 202.5 vs. 199.5. For the first time, there's a decimal on the scoring in the driver standings and they're not kidding.
The next race will be the Heineken Dutch Grand Prix on the 5th of September, 2021.
