Tokyo 2020 Highlights - Day 5

    


July 27, 2021 - DAY 5

On the fifth day of the Tokyo Olympics, the sports that have medal events are Artistic Gymnastics, Cycling Mountain Bike, Diving, Equestrian, Shooting, Swimming, Triathlon, and Weightlifting.

Beginning with Artistic Gymnastics, Team ROC won the Women's Team Final against the USA and Great Britain.

In the Women's Cross-country Cycling Mountain Bike event, Switzerland fully swept the podium with Jolanda Neff won the gold while Sina Frei got the silver medal and Linda Indergand got the bronze medal.

The Women's Synchronised 10m Platform Final saw Team China defeated the USA and Mexico to win the Gold Medal.

Team Germany won the gold medal at the Dressage Team Grand Prix Special.

In Shooting Events, the Chinese team scored two gold medal wins; one at the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team and the other at the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team.

In Swimming events, the Britons nailed a 1-2 finish at the Men's 200 Freestyle Final with Tom Dean the winner and Duncan Scott the second placer. At the Women's 100m Backstroke Final, Kaylee McKeown of Australia is named the winner. The Men's 100m Backstroke Final saw a 1-2 finish for Team ROC with Evgeny Rylov the winner and Kliment Kolesnikov the second placer. And In the Women's 100m Breastroke Final, Team USA delivered a 1st and 3rd place finish with Lydia Jacoby the winner and Lilly King the 3rd placer.

The Women's Individual Triathlon saw Team BER's Flora Duffy the winner after defeating the likes of Great Britain's Taylor-Brown and USA's Katie Zaferes.

And lastly, at the Weightlifting events, Kyo Hsing-Chun of the Chinese Taipei team won gold at the Women's 59kg Group A while Canadian Maude G. Charron won the Women's 64kg Group A.

Coming now at the medal tally, Japan still leads the Gold Medal tally count with 10 golds while the United States and China scored 9. In terms of rank by total, the United States team is leading with 25 total medals won while the Chinese team is four total medals behind its rival.
