July 23, 2021 - DAY 1
After a COVID-19 delay, the Tokyo 2020 Olympics has officially begun. Being the first Olympic event in history that got postponed last year due to the COVID-19 situation and despite the backlash, the opening ceremony took place at Tokyo's Olympic Stadium with no audiences on sight due to the ongoing State of Emergency implemented.
From a showcase of Japanese culture, the parade of nations, and pop culture references in store during the opening ceremony, the opening ceremony ends with tennis superstar Naomi Osaka lit the cauldron, signaling the beginning of the Olympics.
Up until the 8th of August, athletes from a multitude of countries are competing through different sports not just for medals but for the honor of their home countries. As the COVID crisis deepens, let's hope that the Tokyo Olympics will go on smoothly without any problems until the very end.
Welcome to the Tokyo Olympics!
