With the world's first electric street racing mototsport series fully elevated into a fully charged world championship, Formula E's never felt so powered up than ever and what better way to kick off the seventh season of the world's most unpredictable racing series than taking part of the first-ever, two-part, night race, which held in the streets of Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.
With almost all of our favorite Formula E teams and drivers returning for this "positively charged" season while adapting to COVID-19-related health and safety protocols, the drivers are strapping themselves on their Formula E machines and prepare for their first-ever near-hour-long race after dark.
The first race saw some dramatic overtakes, intense collisions, and a first blood upset made possible by Mercedes EQ driver Nyck de Vries after nicking his first ever Formula E win while Edoardo Mortara of Venturi finished 2nd and Mitch Evans of Jaguar finished 3rd.
The second race, meanwhile, delivered the same drama as last time with shocking moments in store such as the two DS TECHEETAH drivers, Antonio Felix da Costa and two-time world champion Jean-Eric Vergne, colliding each other. In the end, after Alex Lynn's horrifying crash that prematurely ended the second race, Sam Bird made his first victory as a Jaguar driver while his former teammate, Envision's Robin Frijns, placed 2nd. JEV finished third but post-race penalties were slapped for not activating his second Attack Mode, therefore Antonio Felix da Costa got promoted to third.
