Pole position Will Power leads the grid to start the race until problems arise in Lap 6 that caused him to be overtaken by Alexander Rossi, and if that wasn't enough Power hit the wall at Lap 36. Lap 47 saw guest driver Scott McLaughlin and Marcus VeeKay got involved in an accident. In Lap 53, Jack Harvey almost colliding with Pato O'Ward. Lap 64 saw Colton Herta went out of bounds and in Lap 70, Alexander Rossi's lead is toast after a crash. After several incidents later, the race resumes on its 80th lap and Josef Newgarden charges to the lead.
