- A heat wave is hitting the westen part of the United States wuth excessive heat watches, warnings, and heat advisories in effect for 12 states.

- Rapper RZA created a new jingle for ice cream trucks that will replace the "Turkey in the Straw" one, known for its problematic assiciations with minstrel shows.

- Japanese Emperor Naruhito expresses deep remorse from the country's military actions 75 years since the country surrendered at the end of the Second World War, but Prime Minster Shinzo Abe and other officials visited the controversial Yasukuni Shrine to mark the event, a move that upsets China and South Korea.

- Protests in Belarus over election fallout continues. Opposition supporters are about to gather at the funeral of a protester who died.

- The United States Postal Service warned that they won't guarantee all ballots cast by mail for the November presidential election when arrived in time to be counted.
