The special Formula 1 Esports Virtual Grand Prix is down to just two virtual races left and the penultimate round of the special event is held at the virtual streets of Baku for the Azerbaijan Virtual Grand Prix.
Eight Formula 1 drivers made their virtual appearance on the grid with Sergio Perez and Pierre Gasly joining the pack and alongside some special guests such as Manchester's Aymeric Laporte, F3 driver Oscar Piastri, Dakar Rally champ Matthias Walkner, and others. Like all the others, the stay-at-home drivers jumped through an online race via the F1 2019 video game and then clash each other in the virtual streets of Baku for 26 laps. Simple as that.
After 26 laps of intense virtual action on the virtual streets of Baku, George Russell of Williams nailed his third virtual grand prix win thanks to his pole position advantage while trying to fend off Red Bull driver Alex Albon for the lead. Esteban Gutierrez, meanwhile, completes the virtual podium with a third place finish.
Three virtual grand prix wins in a row really made George on fire in the eyes of the Williams team.
As the F1 Esports Virtual Grand Prix concludes in the virtual Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the Canadian Virtual Grand Prix, expect the final race of the special series will be the big one but how? Find out soon!
