As the entire ABB FIA Formula E season went into indefinite suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the racers left wondering what to do while staying at home for a very long time. The solution? The organizers team up with PlaySeat to create Formula E racing simulators, ship them to the drivers, and start a special e-sports series. The result; the special ABB FIA Formula E Race at Home Challenge for the benefit of UNICEF.
The first virtual venue of the special ABB FIA Formula E Race at Home Challenge took place in the virtual streets of Hong Kong. Focusing on the Driver Grid which consists of known Formula E greats and other motorsport greats, the virtual Hong Kong action takes about 15 laps and in typical Formula E fashion, there has been lots of drama and action in store for the stay-at-home drivers taking on this brand new approach to the sport they know.
After 15 laps of tense, close-quarters action in the virtual streets of Hong Kong, BMW i's Max Guenther takes the first points of the Race at Home Challenge after fending off against Nick Cassidy, a Super GT driver driving for Emvision, and Mahindra driver Pascal Wehlrein to win the race. Easier done than said.
