2020 NASCAR Cup Series - Daytona 500

NASCAR fans from across the United States have been waited months to see their favorite motorsport back for the 2020 season as this year's NASCAR Cup Series kicked off with The Great American Race, the Daytona 500.

Surprisingly, this year's Daytona 500 is unlike any other past season openers in NASCAR history because US President Donald Trump, the second sitting US President who attended the Daytona 500 since George W. Bush, served as the grand marshal of this year's Daytona 500. He even took his presidential limousine, codenamed The Beast, for a lap round the track as well while the drivers are in the middle of the formation lap, following the Camry Pace Car driven by WWE Superstar Sheamus.

This year's Daytona 500 marks the last for the NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson, who is ending his full-time career at the NASCAR Cup Series after this season.

As the race starts, a sudden downpour emerged and after numerous stops and restarts, the rain went so uncontrollable, they've even have to postpone it on the next day.

With the weather normalized on the next day, the 2020 Daytona 500 delivered classic NASCAR chaos as expected with The Big One took down the race leaders. The race went through two overtimes with the first one caused by the nine-car wreck in Turn 1 and the second one caused by the chaotic restart as demonstrated by Michael McDowell and Clint Bowyer involved in a three-car incident.

In the final lap of the second overtime of the 2020 Daytona 500, Ryan Newman got involved in a horrifying flip at the final stretch and he got hospitalized after that.

After what was known to be the most chaotic Daytona 500 ever witnessed, Denny Hamlin draws first blood as he nicked his third Daytona 500 win.

Next race is at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube on the 23rd of February.
