What to see at the 2019 MMFF?

As Christmas Day approaches, so is this year's Metro Manila Film Festival and like previous MMFFs, this year's lineup maybe streamlined with no Regal movie in sight but it features an eclectic mix of action, comedy, horror, and drama fit enough for moviegoers planning to watch any of this year's entries.

So, what are the movies you will see at the 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival?

1) Miracle in Cell #7 - The Philippine adaptation of the hit Korean family movie stars Aga Mulach, Xia Vigor, Bela Padilla, Soliman Cruz, JC Santos, Joel Tarro, Jojit Lorenzo, and Mon Condiado. It's about a father who was convicted for a crime he never commit and spent the rest of his lives in prison. His life changed when his daughter sneaks into prison to reunite for a brief period.

2) Mission Unstapabol: The Don Identity - Starring Vic Sotto, Maine Mendoza, Pokwang, Jake Cuenca, Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola, and others, this hilarious heist movie is about one man plotting to take revenge against his brother, thus the whole family are planning a high-stake heist.

3) Sunod - Starring Carmina Villaroel, Mylene Dizon, Susan Africa, and Kate Alejandrino, this horror movie is about a woman working as a call center agent to earn money to find a cure to her daughter's illness, only to find out that her call center job has a terrifying twist.

4) The Mall, The Merrier - This musical family comedy from Star Cinema marks the first time Vice Ganda and Anne Curtis appearing together in one film.

5) Mindanao - Starring Judy Ann Santos, this thought-provoking drama film is about a mother caring for her child suffering from a terminal illness. The film highlights more on the conflict-stricken but culturally valued region.

6) Write About Love - Starring Miles Ocampo, Rocco Nacino, Yeng Constantino, and Joem Bascon, this romantic movie is about two writers working together to create a romantic movie.

7) Tripol Trobol: Huli Ka Balbon - This action comedy film from CCM Film Productions stars Coco Martin, Jennylin Mercado, Aiai Delas Alas, and Edu Manzano.

8) Culion - Starring Iza Calzado, Meryll Soriano, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Joem Bascon, and Mike Liwag, this movie is set in the 1940's on an island that was once a leprosarium. It's about three women trying to redefine what makes a woman while dealing with their illness.

The 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival runs from the 25th of December to the 7th of January, 2020.
