Shinbi Apart: Haneuldoggaebi dae Jormungand

The hit supernatural anime franchise made by the embattled CJ ENM is back on the big screen as the latest Shinbi Apart adventure takes Gu Hari and the gang on a mythical adventure where they will battle against a mythical snake monster before it engulfs the world into chaos.

Shinbi Apart:
Haneuldoggaebi dae Jormungand
Shinbi Apart (한글:신비아파트/EN: A Haunted House) is a Korean anime franchise made by the folks from CJ ENM. It's about siblings Hari and Doori tackling on supernatural threats with the help of a goblin named Shinbi and a mysterious device called the Ghost Ball. There are two seasons aired on CJ ENM's Tooniverse channel, movies, stage musicals enjoyed by the entire family, spinoffs (especially the K-drama one titled A Haunted Memory), and lots of merchandising rights. It really is a hit among Korean families.

For the latest Shinbi Apart adventure, Gu Hari and the family are going on an overseas vacation when suddenly, a creature from a faraway land named Joobi appeared out of nowhere, seeking help from the gang because the mythical snake named Jormungand wrecks havoc on its home kingdom and soon the world if they don't stop it.

This is a big one for those who are familiar with the siblings' adventures since the first show years ago because this movie brings this supernatural adventure to greater heights. Although less in horror like in the series, it's more on epic adventure and some on humor, all thanks to Shinbi's shenanigans in the film, and not only Korean families can enjoy the gang's biggest adventure yet, girls too. Why girls enjoying the film? One reason: Choi Kang-Lim on the scene and with their favorite exorcist harnessing Garuda's powers in order to defeat Jormungand, that is the cherry of the cake.

This is exactly why young Koreans from all ages love this hit Korean anime franchise and while it lacks the horror, which is a signature for the Shinbi Apart franchise, this film is all out effort the embattled CJ wants them to see. Call it a last-ditch effort to save the company from a slew of issues facing throughout the year but despite the outcome, it's a matter of "let's not get bogged down" because this is a family friendly movie and every Korean families get to see it without explanations.

My rating: 3.7 out of 5.
