- Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo took four jeepney rides and almost four hours from Marikina City to Malacanang to finish his commute challenge early morning. Panelo started his journey at 5:15 a.m. in Marikina City and reached a gate of the Malacañang complex at 8:46 a.m.
- The Department of Foreign Affairs urged Filipinos in Japan to exercise caution as Super Typhoon Hagibis is expected to make landfall there this weekend. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, Hagibis is considered as a “violent typhoon” which is the “highest category on Japan’s typhoon scale.”
- The local government unit of Manila lifted its closure order on Isetann Mall in Recto, Manila after the mall management secured the necessary permits and paid tax deficiencies.
- Two missiles struck an Iranian tanker traveling through the Red Sea off the coast of Saudi Arabia, Iranian officials said, the latest incident in the region amid months of heightened tensions between Tehran and the U.S.
- Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr, whose response to the NBA’s rift with China was criticized by US President Donald Trump, bemoaned the loss of dignity in the White House.
