- A tropical depression may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility Saturday, according to PAGASA. To be named Onyok, it will be the 20th cyclone in the Philippines this year.
- The Philippines and Russia are set to sign several agreements during President Rodrigo Duterte's state visit to Sochi and Moscow next week.
- The Department of Information and Communications has asked the House of Representatives to craft a bill that would regulate the operations of freight and courier services for the purpose of protecting customers, most of them overseas Filipino workers.
- Minority Bloc lawmakers are pushing for a House inquiry on the spread of African Swine Fever in the Philippines, and its potential disastrous effects on the local hog industry.
- Hong Kong braces for weekend protests ahead of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Thousands of people are expected to rally in the city center on Saturday evening after authorities granted a permit for a gathering at Tamar Park, next to the headquarters of Hong Kong’s legislative council. The Asian financial hub marks the fifth anniversary this weekend of the start of the “Umbrella” protests, a series of pro-democracy demonstrations in 2014 that failed to wrest concessions from Beijing.
- Over 40,000 people gathered outside the parliament buildings of Wellington, giving the latest global climate strike a flying start with the largest turnout yet seen in New Zealand.
