- PAGASA said that the weak El NiƱo that brought significant impact on the rainfall pattern and tropical cyclone activity since the last quarter of 2018 has officially ended.
- Senate President Vicente Sotto III pushes bill that would allow plea bargaining for small-time drug offenders. Sotto said his Senate Bill No. 492 seeks to amend Section 23 of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (R.A. 9165) which prohibits drug offenders from availing themselves of such an arrangement regardless of the penalty.
- Janet Lim Napoles made a plea once again before the Sandiganbayan to grant her demurrer to evidence and dismiss her plunder charge for insufficiency of evidence.

- Twenty years passed after a powerful earthquake struck northwest of Turkey, people in Istanbul live with the knowledge that the "Big One" is unavoidable and they're not prepared. On Saturday, Turkey will mark the anniversary of the 7.4 magnitude quake that hit Izmit on August 17, 1999, killing at least 17,400 people, including 1,000 within the economic capital of the country.
