- A general strike, followed by another weekend of violent protests in Hong Kong, paralyzed transport and causing more than 200 flight cancellations. Embattled Beijing-backed leader Carrie Lam addresed the media, warning that the protests are a challenge to China's sovereignty and pushing it to the verge of an "extremely dangerous situation."

Last weekend. the US formally left the Intermediate Nuclear Forces treaty with Russia after determining that Moscow was violating the treaty, an accusation that the Kremlin denied.
- The New Zealand government released long-awaited plans to overhaul its abortion laws to give women right to choose.
