Hobbs and Shaw sees Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Jason Statham reprising their titular roles from The Fast and The Furious saga as they are busy with their tit-for-tat spat while dealing with a ruthless terrorist, played by Luther's Idris Elba, who stole a powerful experiment that will render him unstoppable. Thanks to a spy, played by Vanessa Kirby, who happens to be Deckard Shaw's sister, the two rivals put their differences and team up to stop this powerful new adversary.
While not necessarily a full-fledged Fast and Furious film, despite some vehicular action like the McLaren 720S Shaw drove in the film, this action thriller is a great way to get to know about these two rivals better ever since they got involved in a conflict back in Furious 7. These two made a massive impact to the franchise, where the former used to try gunning down the crew we love but made use of them to battle down ruthless criminal kingpins and the latter for his unforgettable moment where he killed an iconic character in the streets of Tokyo, but Hobbs and Shaw puts a thrilling new approach to these two as these two frenemies pull all the stops to deliver an odd-but-sick action buddy flick that will make you smile.
From the streets of London, to the beautiful Samoan islands where Luke Hobbs will team up with his family for the endgame, this spinoff really feels like a Fast and Furious film and with all the crazy signature stunts in store, it does make the cut.
Be it an action thriller or a crude action comedy, this film really is a mind-blower for the summer season.
My rating: 3.9 out of 5
