Shining Star: Serowon Luna Queen eui Tangseng

Ran for over half a year since it was first aired on MBC in the autumn of 2017, the hit Korean animation series, Shining Star, is much-talked by fans of Korean animation and K-POP alike because of its questionable storyline and elements familiar to anime otakus (looks familiar?), musical performances as sung by the SM Rookies, and that pretty much it. It really is the first K-POP animation ever made and those who missed the show got the closure they need because the movie adaptation is here, stirring for more Shining Star.

Shining Star: Serowon Luna Queen eui Tangseng

Picking up where the animated series left off, the Shining Star movie pushes the series to greater heights with the newest songs never heard in the TV series, mostly performed by the SM Rookies of course and more to expect on our favorite characters following the series finale.

In the film that sets after the events of the TV show, the rival character Hera has left her group, Dolls, and decided to join Nara's group, New Melody. However, the two rival students of the Shining Star school are competing each other for the title of the greatest idol star in the world. New Melody's feeling the pinch, Hera has a choice of whether she'll be with her new friends or abandon them to achieve her goal of attaining the title, what awaits them in the endgame?

This is the most dramatic Shining Star adventure yet because with the main character Chae Nara and her rival Hera come into the sidelines once again in the hopes of becoming the world's greatest idol, this Korean animation film is something to watch for and having learned our lesson from the TV series a few years ago, musical performances performed by the SM Rookies are overshadowing the story and this film adaptation is no exception.

When the world first saw Shining Star right at the beginning, a lot questioned about the familiarity this Korean animation possess because it reminds them of something that starts with A and ends with U, if you know what I mean? Lacking originality aside, there were a handful just can't get enough of the songs heard from the show. Just because the songs performed by SM Rookies doesn't mean their underrated. In fact, some might sing those for the rest of their lives and no one's safe from this movie either.

Although underrated, it's easy to fall in love with the movie adaptation of the hit K-POP animation series and it's inescapable to explain why you love Shining Star from the start.

My rating: 3.7 out of 5.
