- The Department of Tourism welcomed the inclusion of the country’s three popular island tourist destinations in the Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards 2019.

- Vice President Leni Robredo scoffed at a Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission official for suggesting she can be impeached for supporting a United Nations resolution to probe the human rights situation in the Philippines.

- Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri is proposing to raise the age of statutory rape to 15 years from the current 12 years old and below.

- Two Russian boxers serving doping suspensions have competed while banned, according to reports, highlighting inconsistencies in Russia’s efforts to reform its anti-doping practices.

- German defence minister Ursula von der Leyen was narrowly elected president of the European Commission after winning over sceptical lawmakers. The 60-year-old conservative was nominated to become the first woman to hold Brussels’ top job last month by the leaders of the bloc’s 28 member states, but to the annoyance of MEPs. She will now replace Jean-Claude Juncker as head of the EU executive on November 1, one day after Britain is due to leave the union, and serve a five-year term as head of the bloc’s executive.

- Authorities in Pakistan have arrested Hafiz Saeed, founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba, the militant group blamed by the United States and India for a four-day attack on Mumbai in 2008, according to reports.

- The death toll from the Mumbai building collapse is now 13.

- Lotus unveiled the first-ever electric hypercar called the Evija. With a promised power output of over 2,000PS of power and 1,700Nm of torque from its electric powertrain, it is capable of a 0-100kph time in less than three seconds and a top speed of over 340kph. Only 130 units will be made, each priced at 1.7 million pounds but customers can secure a slot for an additional 250,000 pounds.

- TOEI announced the first Reiwa era Kamen Rider series, titled Kamen Rider Zero-One. Premiering on TV Asahi on September 1st, the new series stars Fumiya Takahashi as main character Aruto Hiden/Kamen Rider Zero-One, Ryutaro Okada as A.I.M.S. captain Isamu Fuwa/Kamen Rider Vulcan, Noa Tsurushima as the AI Assistant Humagear Izu, Hiroe Igeta as A.I.M.S. member Yua Yaiba/Kamen Rider Valkyrie, Daisuke Nakagawa and Shuya Sunagawa as antagonists Jin and Horobi of the terrorist faction targeting Humagears, and Kazuya Kojima as Jun Fukuzoe, the vice president of the Hiden Intelligence company.

- Andre Lotterer has left DS TECHEETAH and became part of the new Porsche Formula E team.

- The Philippine Olympic Committee reiterated that it has nothing to do with the embattled Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee Foundation, Inc., a private body that aimed to organize the 30th SEA Games, but is now the subject of investigation due to alleged corruption and other irregularities.

- Former Sexbomb Girls member Sheena Flores got nabbed for possession of illegal drugs.

- Jane de Leon is named as the new Darna!
