- The House of Representatives froze the bill that seeks to renew the legislative franchise of ABS-CBN, which is due in March 20, 2020. Without the franchise renewal, the largest TV network in the Philippines will close its doors.

- As the Philippines marks 121 years of independence, President Rodrigo Duterte urged Filipinos to commit to building a "truly independent Philippines" during his message. Duterte recalled the sacrifices of our nation’s heroes and asked the Filipino people to build on their contributions and realize their dream for our country.

- The Philippines' national ID system will roll out this September.

- Former late night host Jon Stewart blasts the US congress for not showing up to 9/11 responders hearing. Many lawmakers on the panel did not show up for the hearing, leaving the committee room mostly empty.

Hong Kong football fans booed the Chinese national anthem and held signs opposing government plans to allow extraditions to the mainland at a home match against Taiwan last night.

- The British government outlined legislation to reduce carbon emissions to net zero by 2050.

- From the Nintendo Direct at E3 2019, they've announced a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Link's Awakening remake, new Luigi's Mansion game, and new Animal Crossing game for the Switch, among many others.
