May is here and Indy month has officially began as the two races of the month will be held in the Holy Grail of IndyCar racing; the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. First, there is the IndyCar Grand Prix held at the Grand Prix circuit variant of the said track, and then there's the prestigious Indy 500 held at the oval variant of the track. This is going to be a month to remember.
Kicking off the month of Indy is the IndyCar Grand Prix and unpredictable weather conditions made the race even more challenging for the drivers who are preparing themselves for The Big One ahead this month; the Indy 500.
The race unfolds with Felix Rosenqvist leading the grid but when the race began, rookie driver Patricio O'Ward damaged Alexander Rossi's rear vehicle followed up with some first corner troubles in store for the drivers. Come Lap 11, Marcus Ericsson is hit at Turn 14 when his car got out of control. Come Lap 16, Rosenqvist's locked up the brakes at the first corner, causing him to lose his lead to Scott Dixon. Then, there's Ryan Hunter-Reay clipped the stalled car of Colton Herta. On Lap 43, Rosenqvist's car got caught in flames after the pit stop. On Lap 59, in a middle of a wet condition, Helio Castroneves got spun and later losing power. With 25 laps left, Rosenqvist's car caught fire, again, and three laps later, there's a loose tire at the pit road, probably from Josef Newgarden.
2016 champion Simon Pagenaud made a surprise comeback at Victory Lane after he managed to claw through Scott Dixon and snagged the first place finish. Jack Harvey placed 3rd.
This is the IndyCar Grand Prix but IndyCar fans must prepare themselves for The Big One as the 103rd Indy 500 is coming this 26th of May.
