THREATS FROM NORTH KOREA: Liberty Korea Party, Justice Party win one parliamentary seat each
The results from Wednesday's parliamentary by-elections in South Korea are out.
One National Assembly seat went to the main opposition Liberty Korea Party and the other to the minor Justice Party.
The district of Changwon Seongsan in province Gyeongsangnam-do Province went to Yeo Young-guk
of the minor progressive Justice Party.
He garnered 45-point-75 percent of the votes in a tight race.
It used to be represented by Roh Hoe-chan, a lawmaker with the progressive Justice Party, who committed suicide last year.
The district of Tongyeong-Goseong in the same province went to the main opposition Liberty Korea Party's Jeong Jeom-sig.
Their terms last only to the April 2020 general elections.
The National Assembly's House Steering Committee is set to be briefed by officials from the presidential office.
President Moon's Chief of Staff, Noh Young-min, as well as other aides will be in attendance.
The opposition bloc will likely slam the top office and demand those responsible step down.
President Moon's picks for transport and science minister fell through last week over ethical issues.
Conservatives are also demanding the president withdraw nominations for his picks for SME and unification ministers.
The meeting is garnering extra attention given that the ruling party did not do well in Wednesday's by-elections.
South Korea and the United States have affirmed their confidence in keeping troop readiness at an appropriate level, after the shakeup of their joint military exercises.
That's according to U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Joseph Dunford on Tuesday.
Dunford added the allies are also comfortable with the drills they have scheduled for the coming months.
Last month, South Korea and the U.S. completed the new joint exercise nineteen-dash-one 'Dong Maeng' as a replacement for the Key Resolve exercise.
They are expected to conduct nineteen-dash-two in this Autumn.
