- Broadcast journalist and senatorial bet Jiggy Manicad slams the Otso Diretso opposition slate for allegedly “grandstanding” while putting at risk diplomatic relations with China over the disputed Scarborough shoal. In a press statement, Manicad, a multi-awarded journalist, warned candidates against dipping their fingers in sensitive diplomatic issues that might trigger larger problems for the government to address.
- Senators honored Philippine soldiers in commemorating the Araw ng Kagitingan. This year’s Araw ng Kagitingan theme was: “Sakripisyo ng Beterano ay Gunitain, Gawing Tanglaw ng Kabataan Tungo sa Kaunlaran” which stresses the sacrifices of war veterans and urges the youth to use this as guide to contribute to the advancement of the country.
- Davao City mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said her brother Paolo "Pulong" Duterte doesn't need to show alleged tattoo mark on his back. The daughter of the Philippine President told reporters that her brother need not expose his back to show an alleged tattoo mark of a dragon unless ordered by the courts.
- Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell, a vocal critic of US President Donald Trump, announced he was running for the White House, joining an already crowded pool of 2020 hopefuls from his party.
- U.S. officials are “not satisfied yet” about all the issues standing in the way of a deal to end the U.S.-China trade war but made progress in talks with China last week, according to a top White House official.
- Israelis voted in a high-stakes election that will decide whether to extend Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s long right-wing tenure despite corruption allegations or to replace him with an ex-military chief new to politics.
