- Senate President Vicente Sotto III challenged congressmen to likewise appeal for President Duterte’s veto should they find any illegal realignments that were made by the Upper Chamber in the 2019 budget.

- The Commission on Elections has authorized the opening of the ballot boxes used in the 2016 polls and the transfer of its contents in preparation for the May 13 midterm polls. The poll body, however, said that the ballot boxes to be opened should not be involved in any election protest or official investigation.

- The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said that more than P5 billion worth of damages to agriculture has been recorded due to the effects of the dry spell or drought affecting the Philippines.

- Former Malaysian PM Najib Razak will go on trial over a multi-billion-dollar financial scandal that contributed to his long-ruling coalition’s downfall last year and sent shockwaves around the world.

- The foreign ministers of France and Germany lamented the disarray in British politics over Brexit, saying London must come up with a clear position on leaving the European Union. British Prime Minister Theresa May announced earlier in London that she would ask the European Union next week to delay Brexit for a second time, beyond April 12, to try again to get her deal agreed and ratified in the British parliament.

- The US Air Force halted deliveries of the Boeing KC-46 tankers for the second time due to quality issues. Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson revealed the March 23 decision — another setback in the already delayed air tanker program — during a budget hearing in Congress.

- The United States approved the sale of 24 MH-60R helicopters to India, significantly boosting its emerging ally’s firepower to target submarines as China expands in the Indian Ocean.

- Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika announced his resignation after weeks of protests.

- The fourth-generation Ford Escape was unveiled and for the new model, a new 1.5L EcoBoost engine was added alongside the 2.0L EcoBoost. In addition, the new model brings back the Hybrid variant as well as the new PHEV variant.

- Lonzo Ball of the Los Angeles Lakers filed suit late Tuesday night against the former co-founder and manager of Big Baller Brand, Alan Foster, for damages of more than $2 million plus interest, alleging that Foster "conspired to embezzle millions of dollars and then divert those funds for his personal use, including to acquire assets in Ethiopia."

- Former TV5 news/weather anchor and Manila Times columnist Seph Ubalde passed away yesterday. He was 34.
