- Over 30 containers of smuggled sugar worth 60 million pesos were discovered at the Port of Subic. Due to derogatory information, a total of 34 containers of sugar and one container of fireworks shipped from Hong Kong were uncovered by the Bureau of Customs, according to District Collector Maritess Martin.

- The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has clarified that there is nothing unusual with the consecutive tremors that rocked the country over the week adding that an average of 20 earthquakes hit the Philippines in a day. Phivolcs director Dr. Renato Solidum said the series of quakes felt in the country this past week is usual as we normally experience tremors every day.

- About 1,300 mainly Cuban migrants escaped from a detention center in southern Mexico after threatening to set fire to the facility to protest against overcrowding.

- A powerful cyclone made landfall in northern Mozambique, barely a month after a super-storm slammed into the country’s centre, leaving hundreds dead and causing devastation. Cyclone Kenneth hit the north coast of Mozambique in Cabo Delgado province after swiping the Comoros.
