- The Commission of Elections expects to finish the printing of ballots for the February 6 plebiscite for the ratification of the Bangsamoro Organic Law this week. Vicky Dulcero, vice chairman of the Comelec Printing Committee, said they are targeting to finish the printing of the 600,000 ballots either this Tuesday or Wednesday.
- Suspected communist rebels operating in Laguna and nearby provinces confirmed the recruitment of college students whom they said have regular interactions with them in small batches.
- A new low pressure area brewing outside the Philippine area of responsibility near Mindanao is expected to develop into the first tropical depression to enter the country this year, according to PAGASA.
- DFA Secretary Teddy Locsin Jr said that there has been no leak so far on the alleged passport data breach. “As time passes, the sh*t dries up so you can examine it with a stick without any of it sticking to the stick. No leak so far. But the data is possibly hopelessly corrupted and at any rate inaccessible now or we are being lied to as usual.” Locsin said in a Twitter post on Monday.
- Death toll from last weekend's Paris gas blast has risen to four as body found in rubble. Two firefighters and a Spanish tourist were also killed in the Saturday morning blast that injured dozens and badly damaged nearby apartments.
- Indonesian officials say they found the voice recorder of the crashed Lion Air jet, two months after the plane crashed into the sea near Jakarta, klling all 189 people on board.
- US President Donald Trump warned that they will hurt Turkey economically if it hits the Kurds. Trump’s decision to pull American troops out of Syria has left the United States’ Kurdish allies vulnerable to an attack from Turkey. Ankara views the Kurdish forces as terrorists aligned with insurgents inside Turkey.
- The wife of ousted Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn urged the Human Rights Watch to draw attention to his "harsh treatment" during detention in a Japanese jail, according to reports.
