- The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration has warned of light to at times heavy rains over Southern Luzon, Bicol Region, Visayas and Mindanao due to the prevailing low pressure area east of Mindanao. PAGASA estimated the location of the LPA at 690 kilometers northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur around Saturday morning. The weather disturbance was first spotted east of the country on Friday.
- Senate Minority Leader Franklin M. Drilon said no law is needed to abolish the Road Board because “it is already dead and there is nothing the House of Representatives can do about it.’’

- The Taliban welcomed news of the US plan to withdraw half its troops in Afghanistan by the summer, as Afghan generals warned it would be a blow to the morale of the country’s beleaguered security forces who come under daily attacks from the insurgent fighters.
- British police said two people were arrested for suspected “criminal use of drones'” in the Gatwick Airport case that has created nightmarish holiday travel delays for tens of thousands of passengers.
- A new diesel variant for the new Mercedes-Benz G-Class is added and this new six-cylinder diesel engine, producing 286ps of power and 600Nm of torque, is designed to comply with future emissions legislation.

- The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and Chooks-to-Go will stage a new 3x3 basketball league on the 12th to the 13th of January, 2019, in Cebu, featuring the kinds from Sister of Mary Boystown and Girlstown.
- Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo of Juventus will be tried by the Spanish court for tax fraud on January 21st. Ronaldo is expected to plead guilty and receive a suspended two-year sentence, in agreement with a deal the Portugal forward struck with Spain's state prosecutor and its tax authorities this year. This includes Ronaldo agreeing to pay a fine close to 19 million euros for the reduced sentence.
