The Philippine National Police has no more plan to tape muzzle of service firearms of its armed personnel similar to what its past leaderships have been doing in the past, despite criticism from social media. PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said even the policemen themselves are embarrassed that their guns are taped especially in the presence of foreign tourists who would often ask the reason why.

- The Philippines was ranked 8th most gender-equal country by the World Economic Forum for 2018, a two-step rise from last year.

- The principal proponent of the legalization of medical marijuana lauded yesterday Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray’s “free endorsement” of the proposal, saying that her action will help people to better understand the “better use and advantages” of the banned substance.

- Japan to get its first post-World War II aircraft carriers and buy dozens of fighter jets under a new defense plan approved that is intended to counter China's growing military power. The new five-year defense plan calls for the upgrade of two existing helicopter carriers so that they can launch fighters, and is the latest in a series of steps under Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to boost Japan’s military.

- US President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order soon, possibly as early as Tuesday, creating a US Space Command that will better organize and advance the military’s vast operations in space, US officials say.

- US Border Patrol agents who detained a 7-year-old Guatemalan migrant girl who later died in federal custody will not speak with US lawmakers investigating her death, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said on Monday, citing their union membership.

- The next-generation Mercedes-Benz CLA will be unveiled at next month's Consumer Electronics Showcase.

- Albert Biermann has been reassigned as the head of Hyundai's research and development following a reshuffle of execs.

- Jay Frye, in charge of IndyCar's competition and operations for three years, has been promoted as the president of the series, The move was announced Monday by Mark Miles, president and CEO of Hulman & Co., which owns IndyCar and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The promotion is effective Jan. 1. Miles will remain as CEO of IndyCar.
