THREATS FROM NORTH KOREA: Two Koreas intend to co-host 2032 Summer Olympics
The two Koreas will inform the International Olympic Committee together of their intent to co-host the 2032 Summer Olympics.
This is what delegations of Seoul and Pyeongyang agreed on through their sports talks held today at the joint liaison office just north of the border.
They've also decided to field joint teams for next year's World Handball Championship and 2020 Tokyo Olympics and to do that, they’re kick-starting consultations with the IOC and related organizations.
The two sides also promised to take part in international sporting events hosted by the other and to continue exchanges like holding friendly matches in various sports.
South Korea's defense ministry confirmed Friday morning that one of the four gunports in a North Korean coastal area in western Hwanghaenam-do Province, located close to the inter-Korean maritime border, hasn't yet been closed, and the ministry sent a message to the North to take a necessary measure to close that down.
South Korea's ministry official said to reporters on Friday, that North Korea responded that it will take necessary measures, after they report the matter to the superior authority.
Moving on, the United Nations First Committee, which handles disarmament and international security, passed three resolutions on Thursday calling for North Korea's denuclearization.
One resolution was motioned by Australia and it condemns North Korea's nuclear tests and calls for the regime's complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization.
It also demands that the North comply with UN Security Council resolutions and emphasizes the need for diplomatic efforts on the nuclear issue.
The two other resolutions, sponsored by Japan, urge the North to totally eliminate its nuclear arms and call for a nuclear-free society.
South Korea voted in favor of Australia's motion but abstained from Japan's because they were not in South Korea's interests.
